Islam forbids
its followers to be spiteful. Spite and malice will only incur
wickedness that will eventually destroy man. Friday’s Khutbah
Jumaat, or Friday Sermon, that was held simultaneously at all
mosques and suraus throughout the state reminded Muslims to
desist from such unbeneficial traits.
The sermon
underlined that spite and malice are traits born for the love of
earthly values that forget the greatness of Allah the Almighty. Spite
and malice do not recognise the existence of families, friends or even
work acquaintances. Close-knit families will become strangers, good
friends will become enemies and disagreement will occur in the
workplace.

The sermon
elaborated that envy of the good fortune enjoyed by others will lead
to spite and malice, and that such traits will stop at nothing, even
to the extent of violating the syara laws. Spite and malice will
cause man to harbour hate and to always be unsatisfied with whatever
kind of comfort that Allah the Almighty has bestowed upon him.

The sermon
pointed out that a man who is spiteful and malicious is never at ease
with himself but is always troubled and disturbed by others good
fortune. But for a person who is envious of the good fortunes of
others and strives to elevate his position in a sincere and honest way
is warranted by Islam. |
