Malaysian Cultural Performers to Dance for His Majesty

A group of cultural performers from the Malaysian State of Johor will be performing in the country as part of His Majesty’s 57th birthday celebration.  The two-hour show by the Yayasan Warisan Johor will include Keroncong and Zapin dances.  The group of one hundred and fifty-seven performers will include twenty singers, thirty musicians and fifty-seven teen dancers.

One of the performances is the Zapin dance, involving fifteen children.  At the tender age of between 9 and 12 years old, these dancers have won several Zapin competitions in Johor.

Dayang Faezahtul binti Sufian is one of them, at the age of ten, she had been involved in the art of Zapin dance for more than one year.

Being her first experience to perform in Brunei Darussalam, Faezahtul said she was very excited and is looking forward for the performance.  Her fellow dancer, eleven-year-old Mohammad Aniq Bazli, meanwhile, hoped his performance will entertain the audiences.  He said he was feeling nervous and very excited at the same time.

These nine youth of Yayasan Warisan Johor played their role in Jidor.  According to Johor’s culture, Jidor is played to welcome guests.

The performance from Yayasan Warisan Johor at the Amphitheatre in Jerudong is open to all.  It will take place this Friday at around seven in the evening.
