Customs uncovers contraband goods, perpetrator escapes

The Royal Custom and Excise Enforcement Unit has once again foiled an attempt to bring contraband goods into the country.  In a raid on Tuesday night at the Pantai Seri Kenangan Beach in the Tutong District, officers of the unit seized a good number of alcoholic drinks, 4 hundred packets of cigarettes without health warning from Brunei Darussalam’s government and 126 kilogrammes of Allana frozen meat.  The goods were found in the back seat and in the boot of the car.

The suspected perpetrator managed to escape.  The authority believes that the goods, which were estimated to be worth B$5 thousand, were meant to be sold by individuals, as well as at several eating outlets in the country.  The goods and the vehicle used in the smuggling have been confiscated.

The raid was conducted based on a tip off from the public.
