Crown Prince continues visit to New Zealand

His Royal Highness Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, began the second day of his official visit to New Zealand Tuesday.  His Royal Highness met the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of New Zealand, the Honourable Phil Goff.  The meeting was held at the Parliament House.  Also present was Prince Abdul Qawi.

At the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of the friendship and cooperation shared by both countries.  The Honourable Phil Goff believed that the visit by His Royal Highness to New Zealand would further strengthen the close ties between the countries.  His Royal Highness also exchanged views on regional and international issues of interests.

His Royal Highness then called on the Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand, the Honourable Dr. Michael Cullen.  At this meeting, both sides underscored the significance of the existing friendship and cooperation as well as exchanging views on regional and international issues of interests.

His Royal Highness was accorded an official welcome on his visit to New Zealand.  Upon arrival at the Government House, His Royal Highness was welcomed by Mr. Don Smith, Manager of the Support Services of the Government House.  His Royal Highness was then introduced to the representatives of the local tribes and later watched the traditional Maori way of welcoming visitors to their country.  Mr. John Tahuparae, the representative of the local tribes, explained each stage of the formal ceremony to His Royal Highness.

 

 

 

After the traditional Maori ceremony of welcome, His Royal Highness was invited to meet Her Excellency Dame Silvia Cartwright, Governor General of New Zealand and His Excellency Peter Cartwright.  His Royal Highness was then invited to view the ‘Haka’ performed by students of the Wellington College of Kapa Haka.

After the performance, the Governor General of New Zealand escorted His Royal Highness to receive the royal guard of honour mounted by the Queen Alexandra’s Squadron of the Royal New Zealand Armoured Corps.  His Royal Highness then inspected the royal guard of honour and the national anthem of Brunei Darussalam was played. 

His Royal Highness then attended a reception hosted by the Governor General and His Excellency Peter Cartwright.  At the reception, His Royal Highness was introduced to state dignitaries and the diplomatic corps.

In the afternoon, His Royal Highness called on the leader of the opposition, the Honourable Bill English at the Parliament House.

Immediately after the call, His Royal Highness proceeded to Weta Digital Studios.  Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by Miss Hannah Clarke.  His Royal Highness was then led to the Weta Digital Boardroom to listen to a briefing on the making of films by Digital Special Effects and toured the Weta Workshop.  Weta Digital is New Zealand’s leading Special Effects Workshop.
