Free trips to UK, a dream come true

Two 16 year-old girls have won all-paid trips to the United Kingdom after winning a video contest run by the British Council.

It was a dream come true for Rina Hamzah Rahmad and Siti Reyhanah Haji Yakob to hear their names announced as the winners of the ‘Real UK Competition’.  The announcement was made by the Director of the British Council in Brunei, Amanda Griffiths.

The competition required the participants to produce a brief video presentation of not more than three minutes.  The footage contained their personal introduction, their current studies and aspirations for higher education and careers as well as their impressions of the United Kingdom.

For Rina Hamzah, a student of the Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College, the trip will provide an opportunity to pursue her studies in English Literature, as the course is readily available in the UK.

Siti Reyhanah, the other lucky winner, hopes the visit will give her a clearer picture of the UK, before she makes a decision to further her studies there.

Both girls will leave for the United Kingdom on Friday.  The emphasis of the tour is on exploring educational opportunities through visits to universities and business centres.  They will join 24 winners from other countries.
