His Majesty is to Attend OIC Summit in KL

 

 

 

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday afternoon.  Accompanying His Majesty was His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Present at Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang to greet His Majesty was the Honorable Senator Datuk Tengku Adnan bin Tengku Mansor, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office of Malaysia and other senior officials of the Malaysian government.  Also present at the airport were the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Malaysia, His Excellency Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah.

His Majesty will deliver a statement during the general debate at the summit.  His Majesty will also attend several bilateral meetings with OIC leaders during the summit.  More than 30 heads of states and government of the OIC will attend the 10th Session of the Islamic Summit Conference of the Organization of Islamic Conference.  The 2-day summit begins tomorrow, Thursday and bears the theme “Knowledge and Morality, And the Unity and Dignity for the Progress of the Ummah”. 

 

The theme was chosen to show the important aspect of knowledge in the development of the Islamic ummah.  During the summit, the OIC leaders, amongst others, are expected to discuss regional and international political issues including the post-war Iraq, the Palestinian problem and the recent air strike in Syria.

The leaders will also discuss the issue of reform of the OIC and consider the reports from the three main committees, namely the economic and commercial cooperation, scientific and technical cooperation and information and cultural affairs.  At the end of the summit, the OIC leaders are expected to endorse and adopt the final communiqué and the Putrajaya Declaration on knowledge, morality, unity and dignity for the progress of ummah. 

The organization, established on 25th September 1969 in Rabat, Morocco, is a grouping of 57 Islamic countries.  Brunei Darussalam became a member of OIC on 15th January 1984 at the 4th Islamic Summit Conference in Rabat, Morocco.
