Chinese Culture Makes its Mark With Calligraphic Competition

In Southeast Asia, the Malay culture and the Chinese culture are very important and mix well.  Schools, newspapers and Chinese associations are the main factors that help to keep up the Chinese customs as part of the local culture.

This was stated by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mr. We We, before launching the Chinese Calligraphic Competition and Exhibition,

Friday.  The competition was organized by the Tiong Hin Superstore in conjunction with the upcoming Chinese New Year celebration.  It is the first time such a competition has been held by a private sector in the country.

Around sixty students from all Chung Hwa Primary and Secondary Schools nationwide are taking part in the competition.  Among them are eight Malay students.
