Belait District last year scored the best
results in the Primary School Assessment Examination, PSR, among the
four districts. The district’s pass percentage increased from 87.37
percent in 2002 to 92.34 percent last year. To mark the achievement,
a thanksgiving ceremony was held Thursday at the Sayidina Ali
Secondary School.
Out of 640 students who sat for the exam,
only 48 candidates or 7 percent failed. In the district alone, eight
schools achieved 100 percent pass rates compared to five schools in
the previous year. A total of 91 students last year obtained 5 A’s
and 4 A’s, as compared to 63 in the previous year. In terms of
subjects, there was an increase of 96.7 percent in Mathematics
compared with 91.53 percent last year. |

Dayang Khairunissa, 12 years old, is among
the pupils who obtained 5 A’s in last year’s PSR. She wishes to
become a doctor and attributes her success to doing her homework
diligently and asking questions whenever she had a problem with her
schoolwork. Awang Mohammad Izwan, who wants to be a Science teacher,
is practicing similar techniques.
With the 5 percent increase in the pass
rate, the Belait District becomes the first district to achieve more
than 90 percent pass. The achievement was due to the efforts by the
Belait District Schools Department together with the principals and
teachers as well the students themselves. |
