Indian High Commission Holds Reception on their Republic Day

The High Commission of India to Brunei Darussalam Monday held a reception to mark the 54th anniversary of India’s Republic Day.  It was held Monday at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.  Representing His Majesty’s Government was the Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz.

The High Commissioner of India to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mr. Ajai Choudhry, in his speech said ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Brunei twenty years ago, the relations have been marked by mutual understanding and friendship.  A number of exchanges of high-level visits have taken place between the two countries, the most notable being the state visit to India by His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam in 1992.  These exchanges have intensified and extended the dimensions of India’s bilateral relations with Brunei.

The Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Haji Awang Abdul Aziz in his speech said as the bilateral relations between the two countries are in healthy shape, it is hoped there would be continuous links between the two countries in education and training, defence, science and technology, development assistance, law and government and above all trade and investment.  Brunei is especially looking forward to India’s cooperation in Information and Communications Technology.  Brunei welcomes in particular India’s software engineers to design programmes as well as to facilitate and train the country’s young computer scientists.

Brunei Darussalam and India established diplomatic relations in 1984. Brunei and India are working closely in numerous international world forums including the UN, Commonwealth, Non-Alignment Movement and ASEAN.
