ASEAN Civil Services Facing a Re-vamp

The ASEAN Conference on Civil Service Matters, ACCSM, has put forward various useful activities in promoting the achievements of ACCSM’s vision, mission and objectives in spite of the global socio-economic changes.  This was disclosed at the 12th ACCSM Working Group Meeting, which began Tuesday.  The conference is to provide a forum for sharing experiences and learning from each other so that civil services among ASEAN countries continue to improve in handling public issues and problems.

The three-day meeting, being chaired by Brunei Darussalam, is to extensively discuss the initiative to improve civil service matters and enhance ACCSM cooperation based on the terms of reference outlined during the last year’s conference.

The agenda also includes the reviewing of the current ACCSM activities and projects and a roadmap for ACCSM for the next five years.

In his remarks, the Director of Civil Service, Doctor Azaharaini bin Haji Mohd. Jamil, who is also the Chairman of the Working Group Meeting said the organisation has been operating for more than 20 years and has become the main mechanism for sharing experiences and learning from each other, which has been mainly through three levels of interactions.  Its mission is to develop effective, capable, accountable and responsive civil services in ASEAN through the strengthening of the existing mechanism for networking.
