Illegal Immigrant Nabbed After 1-year in Hiding

A Malaysian citizen was found guilty under the Immigration Act for staying in the country without a valid permit.  Taha bin Chuchu was detained during ‘Operasi Maritim’ conducted jointly by the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Immigration Department, the Fisheries Department and the Royal Custom and Excise Department.  The offender has been denied entry in to the country since 1999 for violating the act, and has been living in Brunei as an illegal immigrant for more than a year.

He was caught by the law enforcers at Kampung Sungai Bunga in Kampung Ayer and will be produced before the Magistrate’s Court today.  Some 30 officers were involved in ‘Operasi Maritim’ aimed at monitoring illegal activities in the Brunei waters and other entry points including fishing without a legal permit.
