DO'S & DON'TS

EXAM DAY

DO’S

1        Read all the instructions carefully. This is the most important point to remember. The examiner isn’t trying to trick you but the instructions for answering different question can vary.

2        Read the question carefully. There’s nothing worse then actually knowing the right answer but giving the wrong response because you’ve misread or misunderstood the question.

3        Keep an eye on the clock. This will help you work out how long you need to spend on each question.

4        Try and answer every question. If you don’t put anything down then you definitely won’t get a mark, if you’re not sure of the answer, have a guess anyway.

5        Check the back of the paper. You’d be surmised how many students forget to do this and so miss out on answering all the questions.

DON’T

6        Forget your equipment. Make sure you have everything you need for each exam, such as pens, calculator, rulers etc. Spend too long on questions which are worth a few points. The amount of points a question is worth is a good indicator of how long you should spend on the answer. If you can just pick up a few points. The amount of points a question is worth is a good indicator of how long you should spend on the answer. If you can just pick up a few points, you should probably be able to answer quite quickly.

7        Panic! If you feel yourself getting anxious, take deep breaths and think back to how much you know. If the first question is tricky, start with something more familiar to clam you down before returning to the problem area. Be tempted to leave early if you think you have finished. If you’ve got through all the questions before time, check over your answers- you may be able to make an answer clearer or correct a mistake which could earn you a few more points.

USING THE INTERNET

DO’S:

1.  USE THE INTERNET TO HELP WITH SCHOOLWORK. The internet is a source of tons of information. It’s like having the world’s largest library at your fingertips! Use the internet to “visit” museums in far away places, or to learn more about universities and colleges that you may be interested in attending.

2.  BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION. And do not give information such as your family’s address, phone number, credit card or calling card numbers, your schools’ name, or your picture to anyone on a computer network that you don’t personally know.

3.  RESEPECT THE PRIVACY OF OTHER USERS ON THE INTERNET. Just as your privacy to be respected. How would you feel if someone read your private email or your grades?

4.  BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU COPY (“DOWNLOAD “) PROGRAMS FROM THE INTERNET. Use a virus scan program before loading them on your computer. Some programs on the internet contain that can harm your computer.

DON’T:

1.  DON’T GIVE YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE. Passwords are meant to protect your computer and your files. Giving them to someone else is like giving away the key to your house.

2.  DON’T TRY TO BREAK INTO COMPUTER. It’s not a game – it’s a crime, and it’s an invasion of privacy since computers often contain sensitive information.

3.  DON’T MAKE COPIES OF ANY COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL. Like books. Magazines or music, without the permission of the author, publisher, or artist. Copyrighted works are available (usually illegally) on the internet. You are committing a crime if you copy and distribute them. Don’t steal copyrighted computer programs (“software”) by copyright them from the internet. This is the same as stealing them from a store.
