Rice production in the Temburong District over the last year increased about 150 metric tonnes compared to the previous year. Last year, the district harvested almost 620 metric tonnes of rice compared to 470 metric tonnes in 2004. The growth is attributed to the increase in the number of rice farmers and the opening of more rice fields.

The extended rice fields are in Pradayan, Lekiun and Negalang Unat and another additional one thousand hectars have been earmarked in the vicinity by the authorities. The Pradayan/Lekiun rice field is the largest in the country. Statistics issued by the Agriculture Department showed that the number of participants involved in the Rice Pricing Scheme for the 2004 and 2005 season in the district have increased to 184 farmers compared to 122 for the 2003 and 2004 season. There is also a marked increase in rice production at 252 thousand kilogrammes worth at four hundred three thousand dollars. At present Temburong District boasts of more than three hundred and forty hektars of rice fields.

The increase in rice production in the Temburong District is attributed to the growing demand from year to year of quality local rice namely Bario, Pusu and Adan. Significant factors in the availability of infrastructure such as good connecting roads to the rice fields, assistance for the utilisation of machinery and good farming management attribute to the increase in rice production.
