His Majesty attends a Chinese New Year Celebration at ICC

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to attend a Chinese New Year Celebration organised by the Chinese Community in Brunei Darussalam. The event took place at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was welcomed on arrival by the Co-Chairmen of the celebration, Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Goh King Chin, Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Lau Ah Kok, Pehin Bendahari China Dato Paduka 0nn Siew Siong and Pehin Bendahari China Kornia Diraja Ng Teck Hock.   
With His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah,the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah.
  Prior to the main event, the Brunei Darussalam National anthem was sounded. The celebration began with the pledge of loyalty to His Majesty from the representatives of Chinese Community in Brunei Darussalam led by Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Goh King Chin. His Majesty the Sultan then consented to receive the pledge letter and watched performances of Chinese traditional dances by students of the Chung Hwa Middle School. The performances culminated with the Traditional Lion Dance.
Before leaving, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and other members of the Royal Family consented to tour an exhibition featuring activities of the Chinese Community in Brunei Darussalam and several companies and associations also showed their products and specialties. The Chinese community is the second largest in Brunei Darussalam after the Malay community and their involvement in business and trades have contributed to the development of the country.
 

AH United edge QAF FC 4-1 while Wijaya and Jerudong FC holds a scoreless draw

The AH United defeated the QAF FC by four goals to one in the group final matches of the Premier One of the Brunei League last night at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.

QAF FC scored first through Christopher Anak Embun in the 22nd minute. AH United drew level in the 38th minute through Brian Bothwell. AH United scored another goal through Mohamad Helmi Zambin three minutes later.

In the second half, Mohammad Helim scored again for AH United in the 56th minute and Awangku Asrul Asdynee bin Pengiran Sahdon netted the fourth goal for AH United to ensure his team’s 4 - 1 victory.

In another group match of the league, the WIJAYA FC and JERUDONG FC played to a goalless draw. The game took place at the Youth and Sport Field in Berakas.

 

Religious schools are to implement effective religious teaching and learning

A Seminar on Teaching and Learning in Religious School has been held spontaneously at four centers in Bandar Seri Begawan, namely the Seri Begawan Teacher Training College, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah’s Al-Quran Tahfiz Institute, the Hassanal Bolkiah Boys Arabic Secondary School and The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic School.  
  Over 800 teachers are involved and the Seminar among other things, were to discuss and find better methods in teaching and learning to be carried out at Religious School across the country. The Islamic Education Department said the outcome of the seminar will become resourceful information for updating the quality of teaching and learning that can be implemented with priority to the need of every religious academic subjects.
