Crown Prince attends the
German Film Festival of the 2006 FIFA World Cup |

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee
Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s
Office and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri
Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Salleh Ab’ Rahaman consented to
attend the German Film Festival in conjunction of the 2006 FIFA
World Cup. The function took in Jerudong, last night |

0n arrival, His Royal Highness and Her
Royal Highness were welcomed at the Empire Cinema by the German
Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Mr Conrad Cappell and
Mrs Lilo Cappell. Also present was His Royal Highness Prince Abdul
Malek. In his speech, the German Ambassador among other touch on the
motto of this year world cup which is ‘A Time To Make Friend”. |

His Royal Highness then consented to
officially open the German Film Festival. Thirty two teams will compete
for the 18th FIFA World Cup in Germany. This will be the second time for
the republic to play host the biggest football event after 1974. |

At the ceremony, their Royal Highnesses
consented to receive a pasambah from the ambassador and wife. |

The Film Festival is being organized by
the Embassy of the Federal Republic of German in Brunei Darussalam in
conjunction with the upcoming FIFA World Cup to be held in German from
9th of June until 9th of July 2006. |

Starting tomorrow to 12th of this month,
the German Film Festival will be aired to public and feature films about
football entitle, The Miracle of Berne, The Champions and Depth of Field
with English subtitles. According to the organizer five viewers will
have the chance to win a 2006 World Cup Football which will be presented
by the ambassador after the completion of the Film Festival |

Brunei Darussalam establishes diplomatic
relations with the Government of the Independent State of Samoa |

The Government
of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and
the Government of the Independent State of Samoa have established
diplomatic relations with effect from Wednesday.
The signing of the Joint Communique took place at the office of High
Commission of Brunei Darussalam in Canberra, Australia. The Government
of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was
represented by the High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Australia,
Her Excellency Pengiran Datin Paduka Hajah Masrainah and the Government
of the Independent State of Samoa was represented by the High
Commissioner of the Independent State of Samoa to Australia, His
Excellency Leiataua Dr. Kilifoti Eteuati. |

The National Committee holds its 2nd
meeting for the 60th birthday anniversary of His Majesty |

The National Committee for the 60th
birthday anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam held its 2nd meeting Wednesday at the Lapau in Bandar
Seri Begawan. The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Home Affairs,
Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan.
Apart from reviewing and confirming minutes of the 1st meeting, today’s
meeting also discussed the appointment of the patron and advisor of the
national committee.
His Majesty has consented to appoint His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee
Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister
Office, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Trade, as patrons of the national committee.
Meanwhile, Chief of Adat Istiadat, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela
Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz has been
appointed as the advisor of the national committee. The meeting also
focused proposals on the format for the traditional get-together between
His Majesty and his rakyat in the four districts. The 1st meeting was
held on the 19th of December last year. |

Pakistani Earthquake Relief Fund collects more
than 150,000 dollars |

The Pakistani Earthquake Relief Fund to
date has collected more than one hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
The collections do not include contributions through SMS Brunei
Prihatin.
The fund was further boosted today with donations from the Wives of
Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Cabinet Ministers and Permanent Secretaries,
the Wife of the Private and Confidential Secretary to His Majesty, the
Wives of Deputy Permanent Secretaries and aligned members.
Datin Hajah Edah binti Haji Mohd Noor handed over the three thousand
dollar donation to the Minister of Culture Youth and Sports, Pehin
Retired Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad. The
presentation was held at the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport in
Jalan Kebangsaan Berakas Wednesday. |

Towards and promoting its vision and mission
of a strong and dynamic financial system |

Towards
upholding and promoting its vision and mission of a strong and dynamic
financial system, the Ministry of Finance is to hold dialogue meetings
with other ministries.
The first session Wednesday was with the Ministry of Development. The
session was chaired by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of
Finance, Dato Paduka Haji Metassan who in his remarks, among other
things, urged heads of departments to monitor and make regular check on
their respective department’s financial administration or revenue
collection divisions.
Among those present at the session was the Permanent Secretary at the
Ministry of Development, Dato Paduka Haji Metassan and the Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Dato Paduka Haji Ali. The session
was a continuation effort by the Ministry of Finance towards enhancing
the knowledge of Ministries and departments in budget management.
Among the issues discussed during the session were the implementation of
projects and spending of approved allocation during a financial year,
outstanding revenues and audits. In this connection permanent
secretaries and heads of department are urged to exercise prudent
spending according to the current financial conditions. |

LNG signed a long-term contract worth over 100
million dollars with for gas turbine maintenance |

Brunei LNG Wednesday signed a long-term contract worth over 100 million
dollars with Nuovo Pigone SPA for gas turbine maintenance. The signing of
the contract took place this afternoon at the BLNG’s head office in Lumut.
Signing on behalf of Brunei LNG was it Managing Director, Awang Fred Smeenk,
while Nuovo Pigone was represented by its Country Executive for Malaysia and
Brunei Darussalam, Awang Mohd. Pahmi Moktar.
The agreement provides for long term maintenance services for BLNG gas
turbine generators at the 0nshore Compression Plant at the Brunei LNG
complex in Lumut. The twenty-year agreement also covers guarantees on
equipment availability. Through the contract the Nuovo Pignone will use
local subcontractors for certain services as part of BLNG’s continuous
commitment to promote development of local businesses. |

A roadshow on Accident, Emergency and Health
Centre Services holds at the Fire Services Headquarters in Berakas |

The Ministry of Health has stated that 75 percent of patients who went to
the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha RIPAS Hospital’s Accident and
Emergency Services Department in 2004 were not serious cases, and do require
immediately treatment. It added some of these patients could have obtained
treatment at nearest of the seven Health Services in the Brunei Muara
district.
This was revealed by the Acting Director of Hospital Services during a
roadshow on Accident and Emergency and Health Centre Services as well as
Bird Flu and influenza pandemic this morning. Doctor Hajah Norlila said the
7 Health Services Centres were established after the launching of the
decentralisation of outpatients services from RIPAS Hospital to other health
centre services in 2000.
The decentralisation project is one of the efforts made by the Health
Ministry in upgrading the health care in the country as to give improved
access to the public to get treatment at the nearby health centre services.
Around 400 officers and other staff members under the Ministry of Home
Affairs attended the two day roadshow held at the Fire Services Headquarters
in Berakas.
Besides talks, several activities were also held such as health exhibition,
blood donation, talks on cervical cancer as well as breast self examination.
Health Centre Services are also available out side Brunei Muara District, 4
each in Belait and Tutong District. |
