Voluntary works is to clean the areas of the Teraja Long House in Mukim Labi

 

More than one hundred people comprising officers and government members staff as well as members of the Mukim and Kampong Consultative Council took part in the ‘memucang memucang’ or voluntary works to clean the areas of the Teraja Long House in Mukim Labi, Sunday.

Such works is often practised by Bruneians. This is to show unity among the people regardless of the religions and race. Among those present were the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Haji Adnan and the Acting Belait District 0fficer, Awang Haji Mohammad bin Haji Abdul Rahman.

 
 

More than 12 thousand dollars donates to a full time fisherman

 

 

The Islamic Religious Council continues to contribute assistance to less fortunate people in the country to lesson their burden. Sunday, the council through the Baitulmal assistance contributed a boat and fishing equipment to a recipient in Kampong Bendahara Lama.

The Secretary of the Islamic Religious Council, Pengiran Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar handed over the both contributions which valued more than 12 thousand dollars to Pengiran Haji Osman bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman, a full time fisherman. He is married with two children. Previously he and his family received cash money from the council. The ceremony took place at the resident of Ketua Kampong Bendahara Lama.

 
 

A walkathon in conjunction with the World Habitat Day

 
 

The Ministry of Development has organised a walkathon in conjunction with the World Habitat Day. Earlier, the participants held a warming up exercise. The walkathon started from the Community Hall of the housing scheme in Lambak Kanan.

Among the participants was the Minister of Development, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Abdullah. The residents of the housing scheme and about 50 recruits and officers of the Fire Brigade Training Centre in Lambak Kanan also joined the walkathon.

 
 

The World Habitat Day which takes place on the 3rd of 0ctober reminds the world society of their commitment to eradicate poverty, hunger, illeteracy, contaminated water, illness, and the pollution of environment.

The event was also to enhance friendship relations among the villagers and various ministries and government agencies. This year’s walkathon was conducted by the Housing Development Department.

 

Chinese New Year Annual Dinner

 
 

The Chinese Chamber of Commerce organised a Chinese New Year Annual Dinner. The function was held Sunday night at the International Convention Centre, in Berakas. Present at the function as a chief guest was The Minister of Culture Youth and Sport Pehin Retired Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohamad.

Pengiran Salleh Ab-Rahaman was among and the several government officers who attended the function. The President of the Bandar Seri Begawan Chinese Chamber of Commerce Awang Robert Koh in his welcoming address thanked His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for giving the freedom for his citizens to practice freely the religion of their choice and celebrate major events of their calendar.

 

Awang Robert Koh added, the Chinese lunar calendar year of the dog symbolises integrity and loyalty. He said according to the belief of the Tiong Hwa society, this year is a good year for starting business. Sunday night’s programme included a traditional performance of a lion dance and other cultural performance.
