The
Ministry of Health says that noodles and tofu sold in this country are safe
to eat |
| |
 |
|
The Ministry of Health
has informed that noodles and tofu sold in this country do not contain
‘formaldehyde’ and are safe to eat. Likewise the ministry informs that
the products of the fresh water fish called ‘dace’ sold in cans which is
imported from the People’s Republic of China do not contain ‘malachite
green’, contrary to reports in Hongkong. |
|
|
The Ministry of Health
made the announcement following reports that fresh noodles and tofu
products produced in Indonesia contain ‘formalin’ as preservative.
‘Formalin’ is a mixture of methanol and formaldehyde which is a form of
gas which can be harmful to health.
|
|
 |
|
In its press release
Wednesday, the Ministry of Health stated the mixture should not be used
in food industry and if consumed can cause vomiting, diarrhoea,
breathing difficulty, headaches and chest pain. And if consumed over
long period it can cause asthma, skin disease and cancer. Brunei
Darussalam, however, does not import both of these products. |
|
Meanwhile, ‘malachite
green’ is a form of dye use in coloring silk, cotton and paper. Under
proper control, it is used in aquaculture in ridding parasite and fungi
on fishes and fish roes. However, analysis conducted by the Brunei
Darussalam’s Health Ministry found no trace of the dye in the imported
‘dace’ fish product.
