His
Majesty participates in mass walk at Bukit Shahbandar |

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam,
Sunday consented to participate in a brisk walk jointly organised by the
Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and the Ministry of Health. |

His Majesty was welcomed at the Bukit
Shahbandar Recreational Park by the Minister of Industry and Primary
Resources, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Ahmad, and the Minister of Health,
Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Suyoi. Also taking part in the Bukit Shahbandar royal
brisk walk was His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik. |

His Majesty joined more
than one thousand officers from 12 ministries who took part in the
activity which aim to encourage government officers of over forty years
old to exercise regularly and to make it as a daily practice in
maintaining health. |

The Bukit Shahbandar
royal brisk walk also emphasised the importance of physical endurance in
enhancing stamina and a healthy well being. The event was made more
significant because it gave the participants the opportunity to enjoy
their leisure time with His Majesty. Such gathering could also instill
the spirit of cooperation and solidarity among government officials. |

On completion of the
more than one-hour hike along the Bukit Shahbandar trail; His Majesty
and His Royal Highness consented to mingle with the participants. Bukit
Shahbandar is one of Brunei’s popular recreational parks frequented by
locals and tourists alike, who wish to enjoy nature’s natural beauty. |

Majesty sends condolences to Philippines after recent deadly landslide
|

His Majesty the Sultan
and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to send a message
of condolences to Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of
the Republic of the Philippines following the loss of lives caused by
the recent landslide in Eastern Philippines. |
|
In the message, His
Majesty, the Government and People of Brunei Darussalam presented their
heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the Government and People of the
Republic of the Philippines, especially to the bereaved families of
victims of the disaster. |

Minister presents prizes to students who will be continuing their studies
overseas |

The Minister of Home
Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan has presented prizes to children
of Hokkien Association who obtained scholarships to continue their
studies overseas. The prizes were presented in conjunction with the
Chinese New Year 2006 and was held at The Mall in Gadong. |
|
The Chairman of the
Hokkien Association in Brunei Darussalam, Awang Lim Seng Kok said that
the association was formed in 1998 and has about 688 members. Those who
received the prizes achieved excellent results in their respective
primary and secondary schools and higher learning institutions. Some 284
students received the prizes and certificates of excellence this year
compared to 276 last year. |

At the gathering, the
Minister of Home Affairs presented prizes to six students who will be
continuing their studies overseas on scholarships in various fields at
the University of Manchester, 0tago, University of Calgary and Singapore
Polytechnic. |

Singapore
to host ASIAN AEROSPACE Aviation Summit |

A two-day ASIAN
AEROSPACE Aviation Summit 2006 is to take place in Singapore. The theme
for this year’s summit is ‘Mapping the Future’. Representing Brunei
Darussalam to the summit is the Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato
Seri Setia Haji Abu Bakar. |

Also taking part is the
Director of Transportation, Pengiran Haji Mohd. Yakup bin Pengiran Haji
Othman and the Director of Civil Aviation, Awang Haji Kassim bin Haji
Latip. Brunei Darussalam’s attendance to the summit is at the invitation
of the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Singapore, His
Excellency Yeo Cheow Tong. It is expected that this year’s summit will
bring together approximately 265 airlines operators whose flights
comprise 94 percent of all international scheduled air traffic. |

The topics of
discussions during the summit include ‘Winning Strategies’, ‘Let’s Help
the Passenger’ and ‘Accommodating New Markets’. By attending the summit,
it is hoped that Brunei Darussalam including other airline operators
will have the opportunity to learn from experts and leaders in the
aviation sector some of the known strategies necessary for ensuring
incumbent airline operators to remain competitive in the aviation
business. |

Brunei Darussalam will
also have the opportunity to exchange ideas with other ASEAN
Transportation Ministers as well as arrange bilateral meetings with its
counterparts to discuss related matters. A collection of various types
of airplanes is to be exhibited during the summit. |

International Bazaar to glorify 22nd National Day celebrations |

Numerous events have
been organised to glorify the 22nd National Day celebrations. Sunday,
the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin
Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad distributed mini-sized national flags
to sponsorships and donors of the 22nd National Day celebration. |

The Minister also
installed a mini-sized national flag on the vehicle which led the
procession of cars. Participants represented government ministries and
departments, private sectors, associations and individuals. Some 25
thousand mini-sized national flags have been issued to the public by the
Sponsorship Committee of the 22nd National Day Celebration this year, so
as to add colour to the upcoming National Day anniversary. |

The Minister of
Culture, Youth and Sports then officiated at the International Bazaar,
and cutting the giant-sized cake in conjunction with the National Day.
The cake is 20 feet long and eighteen feet wide and will be sold to
members of the public. Proceeds from the sale will go to the Sponsorship
Committee’s Fund of the 22nd National Day celebration. |

The eight-day fair
involved nearly forty participants from ASEAN countries. It offers
clothing, food supplement and other items. The bazaar is open daily from
ten in the morning until ten in the evening at The Mall in Gadong. |

Arts and
Handicraft Centre holds exhibition and sale |
|
Brunei Darussalam
like any other countries worldwide which are members of the World
Craft Council is organising a handicraft month as agreed by the body
that conferred in Uzbekistan last year. |
|
For three days as
from Saturday, the Arts and Handicraft Centre in the capital is
holding an exhibition and sale of its items at the premises.
However, since selling of the item received encouraging response
from the public, the organiser is extending the exhibition until the
23rd of this month. |
|
The exhibition is
being held in view of the handicrafts’ markets which need to be
upgraded and has the potential to be developed, besides to diversify
the country’s economy. It is jointly conducted by the World Craft
Council and UNESCO-ASEAN Handicraft Promotion and Development
Association or AHPADA. The exhibition is open during office hours. |
