The distribution of mini-sized national flags

 

The distribution of mini-sized national flags to be installed on vehicles for government, penghulus, ketua kampongs and officers as well as staffs of the Brunei Muara District was held yesterday.


The flags were installed by the Co-Chairman of the Sponsorship Working committee for the Brunei Muara District, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Seri Wijaya Pengiran Haji Ahmad, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Hapidz and the Brunei Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Haji Mohamad Yussop. Some 25 thousand mini-sized national flags have been distributed to the four districts by the Sponsorship Working committee of the 22nd National Day celebration this year to add colour to the upcoming national day anniversary.

 
 

Meanwhile in the Temburong District, the small flags were handed over to the Temburong District Officer, Pengiran Abdul Haris bin Pengiran Haji Shabudin who then distributed them to penghulus, ketua kampung and heads of longhouses in the district. The district officer later installed the flag on a vehicle which later led a procession of cars. The procession around Bangar Town was participated by government departments, private firms, associations and individuals. Some 500 flags were distributed in the Temburong district

 

Essay writing competition marking  the national day anniversary

 
 

In the meantime, the Special Duties Officer at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Awang Haji Sumadi bin Sukaimi who is the director of the 22nd National Day’s theme presentation, said that so far Brunei Darussalam has and will continue to prepare the young nationals  through various ways and efforts to become educated and skilled nationals as well as courageous, hard-working land competitive so that they will be able to contribute to the development and prosperity of the race and nation.


The theme “Mempertingkatkan Daya Saing Bangsa” said Awang Haji Sumadi will be creatively translated by nearly fifteen thousand people during the presentation. With the Special Duties Officer at the media conference yesterday was the Acting Deputy Director of Information, Awang Haji Yusof bin Haji Ladi as the Chairman of the Printed Media Working Committee, said this year the Information Department has organised an ‘online’ essay writing competition to mark the national day anniversary. Category ‘A’ is open to participants age ten to twelve.
 

 
The essay entitle ‘Apa Erti Hari Kebangsaan Bagi Anda?’ or ‘what does national day means to you?.’ Category ‘B’ is for those age between 13 to 15 and the title of the essay is ‘Bagaimanakah Anda Dapat Menyumbangkan Kepada Kemajuan Negara Brunei Darussalam’ or ‘How can you contribute to the development of Brunei Darussalam?’

Local jobseekers are urged to change their mindset

 
 

The labour department has identified several jobs filled by foreign workers which could be taken over by local people. Meanwhile, local jobseekers are urged to change their mindset that they would be willing to work with the private firms and not comparing the salary, working time and other benefits available in the government sector. This was stressed by the Labour Commissioner, Awang Haji Omar bin Haji Abdul Rahman at the closing ceremony and certificates presentation to participants of the basic skill course and costumers management technique yesterday.

Awang Haji Omar also urged the participants to take seriously the opportunity offered in the career. The skill and new knowledge they gained from the course would give employers more confidence to employ them and thus indirectly reduce dependent on foreign skilled workers

 
The five-day course was a joint-effort by the Career Service Section of the Labour Department and the Blondal Company Sendirian Berhad aimed at to improve the skill and experience of the job seekers before venturing into real job situation.
 

The Health Centre Services are available in all four districts

 
 

There are many people who have not yet known on the types of services provided by the Health Centres in the country. The services are only focussed on minor illness treatment apart from providing a minimal health services and limited dispensary. In its effort to inform the public about the availability of the Health Centre Services in the country, the Ministry of Health continues to organise an ongoing roadshow.

Currently, there are seven Health Centre Services in the Brunei Muara District after the launching of the decentralisation of outpatients services from RIPAS Hospital to other health centre services in 2000. The Health Centre Services are also available in other districts; four in the Belait District and four in the Tutong District.

 
 

The Senior Health Officer of Tutong Health Centre, Doctor Haji Zulhilmi said that many people do not know about the function of the Centre prompting them to organise such a roadshow. Doctor Haji Zulhilmi also told RTB that the Centres open during working hours with the registration can be made from half past seven in the morning to twelve fifteen in the afternoon for morning session while the afternoon session opens from half past one to half past four in the afternoon.

For the Brunei Muara District, an additional clinic is located at the Bandar Seri Begawan Health Centre in Jalan Ong Sum Ping. It provides extra service from six to nine in the evening during working days and from two in the afternoon to nine in the evening on Fridays, Sundays and public holidays

 

Nearly one million dollars for a project building overhead bridges

 

The government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Road Department of the Public Work Department has embarked on a multi-million-dollar project to provide basic facilities for the benefits of the people in the country, especially pedestrians.

From a study made by the Road Department, areas of high risk accident involving pedestrians occurred around the school vicinity. To reduce this mishap, the Road Department has taken appropriate step by constructing several overhead bridges at some of these locations

One of the overhead bridges being built at Jalan Berakas next to the Berakas Secondary has completed. While construction works on other bridges at Jalan Muara next to the Pengiran Anak Puteri Mutawakillah Hayatul Bolkiah Religious School and the Mohammad Bolkiah Mosque in Kampong Serusop as well as at Jalan Tutong closed to the Bendahara Sakam Primary School in Bunut are now progressing well.  A similar  facility will be built soon at Jalan Gadong next to Menglait Filling Station and the Menglait Secondary School

Last year, thirteen accidents have been recorded in the vicinity involving pedestrians with cars and motorcycles.. In this regard, it is important for the road users to be more cautious and abide by the road signs.
