Zebra Crossing is introduced to enhance safety of road users

Pedestrian Crossing or Zebra Crossing was introduced to enhance safety of road users. The extensive use of zebra crossings in the country is evidence of its acceptance by road users and pedestrians in particular.

In its statement, the Brunei Police Force advised road users especially pedestrians to be aware of the correct usage of such crossings, such as who has priority to the facility. There have been instances where the public failed to understand road signs posted in the area, giving rise to doubts to motorists.

When approaching pedestrian crossings motorists are advised to proceed with extra caution, reduce speed and scan either side of the crossing to ensure there are no pedestrians wanting to use the lane. Be prepared to pull up and let the pedestrians cross over first.

Pedestrian crossings are widely used nowadays and can be seen not only at schools areas but also at strategic locations in the capital, Bandar Seri Begawan, and commercial areas in Gadong and Kiulap. Cooperation and positive attitude of members of the public particularly road users are needed in ensuring success in the implementation of the regulation.

The Investigation and Traffic Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force once again reminded all road users to exercise caution and reduce speed when approaching Zebra Crossings in Jalan Sultan, Jalan Kianggeh, Jalan Mac Arthur in the capital and at other locations. Pedestrians are also advised to be alert when using such crossings.
