New Brunei
Supreme and Syariah Court starts operation today |

All syariah affairs
including related hearing cases and registration of Muslim marriages and
divorces will be handled at the new Brunei Supreme and Syariah Courts
Building at Jalan Stoney in the capital, starting today. |
|
A doa selamat was held Monday to coincide with the movement to the new
building. There was also a mass reading of Surah Yassin led by the
Syariah High Court Judge, Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang
Salim. The Panel of Syariah Appeal Court’s Judge, Pehin Dato Paduka Seri
Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya read the doa selamat.

The 14 million dollar
Brunei Supreme and Syariah Courts Building was constructed on ten acres
of land staring July 2001 and the site was the location of the old
General Hospital. The facilities include court rooms, the Counseling
Section and Multi Purpose Hall. |

Over two
thousand heads of live stocks bring in to cater Hari Raya festival demand
|
|
The demand for
meat during the coming Hari Raya Aidil Adha or Sacrificial
Festival is expected to increase. And to cater this high demand,
abattoirs operators are now busy preparing and importing a large
number of livestock.

The Hari Raya
Haji literally means the Festival of Pilgrimage is known by many
as Hari Raya Aidil Adha. It is one of the important events in
the Muslim calendar. Muslims all over the world mark the
celebration by slaughtering animals such as cows, goats and
buffaloes and the meat are donated to the poor. |
Abattoir operators are also offering
various packages of services which include the service for trimming,
boning and packing service in different amount of charges respectively.
The Mulaut Abattoir said it has imported a total of 740 steers and bulls
and 500 goats to meet the expected high demand from the public. Another
local company, Hussyn Rahman has imported a total of 600 steers, 150
bulls and 230 goats. |

Forum, open
day and sport activities mark Police’s 85th anniversary |

In an effort to achieve
the vision of the Royal Brunei Police Force in emphasizing its role in
working in partnership with the community, several events and activities
have been planned by the force marking the 85th anniversary celebration
of its formation. |
|
The events include religious, sports and welfare activities. First,
there will be a forum on the 18th of this month. Meanwhile an ‘Open Day’
will be held on the 21st of this month at the Marine Police District
Station. The objective of the open day is to inform the public on the
roles and duty of police especially marine police as well as to foster
closer ties between the police force and the public.

Apart from the open
day, a charity walk to collect funds for the Pengiran Muda Mahkota
Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans will also be held and will also
involve all police personnel, their family members and kampung’s
neighbourhood crime watch bodies. There also includes blood donation
campaign which will be held at every police districts throughout the
country. |

Group of
nurses leave for Singapore to undergo specialize course for a year |
|
Twelve nurses from the
Ministry of Health have left for Singapore to undergo a one-year course
in Specialised Nursing at the Nanyang Polytechnic. This is the first
time a large number of nurses have been sent abroad at one time since
1980s. |

The nurses will undergo
course on their respective fields comprising of extensive care,
emergency, gerontology, nephro-urology, orthopedic surgery, neuroscience
and pediatrics. This year’s participation is an apprenticeship in
realising the strategic planning of the Ministry of Health.
The objective of the course, which is a higher national diploma level,
is to balance the development of medical with the quality of nursing.
From there, the Ministry in general and specifically the Nursing
Services can identify its insufficiency and adjust the quality of
nursing.

The specialise course
is the result of the bilateral cooperation between the Brunei Darussalam
Ministry of Health and its Singaporean counterpart and materialised from
the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two
countries. |
