Launching Media Permata’s new look in Gadong

 

The Minister of Home Affairs said that in the era of modernisation, media not only serve as a tool for disseminating information on government policies, news and others, but also setting minds towards a more knowledgeable and well-educated society. Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan was speaking at the launch of Media Permata’s new look in Gadong Sunday.

The minister said His Majesty’s government has always appreciated and welcomed the role and contributions of the mass media in disseminating honest and accurate information to the community aside from contributing too many Government’s efforts in the development and progress of the nation.

Media players in the country are reminded to give information based on accurate facts and to minus out sensational values which primarily are aimed at rapidly moved their papers. The Minister also spoke on the roles of media including print media that has increased in line with the rapid development of telecommunication networking and Information Communications Technology.

 

Pehin, however, stressed that although ICT usage is becoming more common, printed media are still popularly sought after as a complete reference of updated daily knowledge on every aspects of global issues. Hence, the importance of credible reporting because the media play a significant role in creating a positive minded community.

 

Subscribers are given 6 months to re-register their SIM cards

 

DSTCom and B-Mobile in collaboration with the Authority for Info-Communications Technology Industry wants all its active prepaid SIM cards subscribers to re-register to ensure that all personal, Easi SIM cards and lines details are accurately recorded aside from creating a practical regulatory regime. Subscribers are given six months grace to re-register, between 1st February and 31st July of this year, failing which unregistered numbers will be deactivated.

There are no additional fees imposed for re-registration or registration aside from the cost of purchase of the starter packs. The measure is part of an ongoing initiative to benefit the general public and encourage responsible use of mobile phones in Brunei Darussalam, and is consistent with regional and international best practices.

Factors such as the need to facilitate investigations by law enforcement agencies, usage by the public and business considerations of mobile service providers were taken into account.

Easi subscribers are urged to register early and not to wait until the last minute to avoid long queues. Re-registrations can be made at all DSTCom and B-Mobile counters in all the four districts during working hours from Monday to Thursday, Saturday and Friday.

 

A man smuggle nearly 500 litres of petrol out of Brunei Darussalam

 
 

A Malaysian man aged 44 years old, is under police custody pending further investigation after he was caught for attempting to smuggle nearly five hundred litres of petrol out of Brunei Darussalam.

According to the Customs and Excise it is a first case under Section 126 of the Customs Act following the enforcement of new regulations on the first of last month on the purchase of fuel in the country.

Authorities of the Customs and Excise Preventive Unit foiled the attempted smuggling of twenty-one jerry cans of regular fuel to a neighboring country. A man from Kampong Tanjong Katong, Sundar-Lawas, was apprehended at the Brunei River Sunday morning following information given by the public.

Wahid bin Salleh was caught for trying to frisk away in a boat 480 litres of regular petrol in cans not approved by the Brunei Shell Marketing. The offender who bought the fuel at the Sri Cermin Petrol Kiosk in Kampong Sungai Lampai Besar hid the cans of petrol under a heap of fishing nets.

He was also found to have entered the country without valid travel documents and produced to the Bandar Seri Begawan Police Station for further investigation. If found guilty of wrongdoings, Wahid could be fined or sent to prison and his boat confiscated.

 
 

A voluntary work repairing the wooden walkways

 

The establishment of the Mukim and Kampong Consultative Council is not only meant for the development of villages under its jurisdiction but it also plays a pivotal role in maintaining peace and unity of the community. Members of the consultative council of Kampong Tengah and Tamoi Ujung, Sunday, joined the villagers in repairing a 45-metre-long walkway in the kampong. The wooden walkway connects the kampongs to other nearby villages.

The voluntary work that also involved the elderly and young people reflects the strong cooperative spirit of the community. The Brunei Muara District contributed the materials needed. Brunei Muara District’s Officer, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yussop was among the volunteers taking part in the work. Kampong Tamoi Tengah and Tamoi Ujung are home to more than one thousand and one hundred residents.

 

Asean Youth Camp holds a Bazaar

 

The 12-day Asean Youth camp currently being held in the Sultanate, hoped to develop a deeper awareness, appreciation of and a sense of responsibility for the natural environment amongst the participants. The goals will be achieved through artistic creativities and expressions using indigenous themes and natural materials found in the place they are working in.

Sunday, the Asean Youth Camp held a Bazaar as one of the camp’s project. The Bazaar was held at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation Complex in the capital, received good responds from the public and is opened from 4 until 10 this evening.   According to the camp director, Awang Muhamad Abdoh bin Haji Awang Damit, the Bazaar helped the participants to interact with the public aside from showcasing each country’s products.
