Community leaders must nurture goodwill and strengthen cooperation with village residents

 

All head of villagers are urged to be proactive in carrying out their responsibilities and managing a more progress kampung in a harmonise way as well as able to lead the welfare and social activities in the future.  The call came from the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan.

The Minister of Home Affair’s speech was delivered by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Dani at the Seimbara Kampung Harmoni prize presentation for Mukim Berakas ‘A’, Sunday.   The minister said all form of welfare and economy related activities that bring together village residents are very much welcomed.  Such activities, he added, shows the leadership of the ketua kampung.

 

The Kampung Lambak ‘B’ was selected the winner of Seimbara Kampung Harmoni.  Its head of village, Retired Major Haji Mohd. Jair bin Haji Abdul Wahab received a five hundred dollars cash prize, a certificate and Champion Plague.

 

Kampung Jaya Setia/Jaya Bakti came in second while Kampung Lambak ‘A’ in third place.  The Seimbara Kampung Harmoni is a kind of evaluation programme where the cleanliness of the village’s environment, head of village attitude towards handling matter pertaining to administration and management of his kampung and community was evaluated.  The active involvement in organising activities and forming welfare and community society is also taken into account.

 

Kampung Pelambayan residents vote for new ketua

 

 

Every penghulu and ketua kampung need to act wisely and effectively in carrying out their duties and responsibilities.  It is a must for the community leaders to always nurture goodwill and strengthen relationship with their village residents by holding gatherings and meetings especially through their Mukim and Kampung Consultative Councils. Meanwhile, more than one hundred residents of Kampung Pelambayan, Mukim Kota Batu in the Brunei-Muara District voted for a new ketua kampong, Sunday.

Present to witness the voting was the Brunei Muara District officer, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd. Yussop.  In his address, he stressed that ketua kampung should continuously instill their spirit of solidarity and maintaining the unity among kampung residents.  Village head, he added, should maintain their good image and uphold their institution

 

The post of Ketua Kampung Pelambayan was left vacant since January 2004.  Only one candidate was nominated for the post.  Awang Haji Hanipah Bin Begawan Pehin Udana Khatib Haji Junit age forty-eight years old was a former employee of the Ministry of Health.  He won one hundred and twenty-six, out of one hundred and sixty-six votes.

 

Last group of Brunei pilgrims arrive home

 
 

Majority of haj pilgrims have expressed their gratitude to the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for providing several facilities, transportation and accommodations for Brunei pilgrims performing the fifth pillar of Islam in the holy land.  The last group of Brunei pilgrims arrived home, Sunday.

This year, more than nine hundred pilgrims performed the haj in the Holy City of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.  The RBA flight carrying the last pilgrims from Jeddah touched down at the Brunei International Airport at about nine o’clock in this morning.  When interviewed by RTB, several pilgrims have expressed their happiness to be back home safely without facing any problem when performing the haj.  They also touch on facilities and services provided by the government throughout their stay in the holy cities of Medina and Mecca, which some said were excellent.

 
 

Various ministries hold sport activities during weekend

 

The Ministry of Education has organised a walkathon for its officials and staff.  Over one thousand people participated in the walkathon.  They included the Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Abdul Rahman, the Deputy Minister of Education, Permanent Secretary, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Special Duty Officer as well as Vice- Chancellor of University Brunei Darussalam.  The walkathon started and ended at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Development organised a cycling expedition. Around 80 cyclists, including the Deputy Minister of Development, Dato Paduka Doctor Haji Mat Sunny took part in the 35-kilometre expedition.  The expedition which covered several routes including Jalan Sengkurong, Limau Manis, Lumapas Bypass, ended at the Public Works Department in Sinarubai.  Sunday’s event was to mark the Civil Service Day.

Malaysian Premier League

 

The Brunei DPMM FC suffered another defeat this time to Terengganu. They went down by four goals to two in an away match last night.  The match took place at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Terengganu.
