11 senior
army officers promoted |

With the consent of
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam,
eleven senior officers and officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces
have been promoted. The promotion ceremony took place Friday at the
Officers Mess, Bolkiah Garrison. The Commander of the Royal Brunei
Armed Forces, Major General Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi
presented the rank insignias. |

Four of the officers
were promoted to Acting Lieutenant Colonel and seven other officers were
promoted to Substantive Lieutenant Colonel. The promotions took effect
from the first of December last year and the first of this month. |

planning and effective anti-doping enforcement can help global campaign on
drug-free sports |

The Anti-Doping Seminar
organised by the Department of Youth and Sports enters its third day
today. The seminar, the first such kind to be held in the country
highlights the significance of drug abuse in sports, as well as playing
a key part in the World Anti Doping Agency’s Play True Campaign. The
course aims to educate athletes, coaches, trainers, sports
physiotherapists, pharmacists, paramedics and sports administrators on
the latest advancements in Anti-Doping Policies through a core
scientific programme.

The Minister of
Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri
Pahlawan Haji Mohammad who officiated at the opening of the session
Friday said the role of sports medicine professionals is to provide
services to the sporting community. They are also responsible for
providing support, understanding, and showing compassion to the
athletes. These are necessary to assist in the character-building of the
athletes themselves. The Minister was also confident that with proper
planning and effective anti-doping enforcement as well as other
necessary measures to ensure healthy competition and participation,
athletes will be encouraged to join hands in this global campaign for
drug-free sports with an even greater commitment. The Minister went on
to say it is the right time for some research to be made into current
trends that exist in the society as far as doping control is concerned. |

Among the topics highlighted at the seminar are History of Anti-doping,
World Anti-Doping Code and Self Medication, Supplement and Doping. A panel
of internationally acclaimed expert speakers of the subject has been invited
to facilitate and further enhance understanding of the subjects among
participants from various government ministries and department, sports
organizations and the private sector where sports policy is pursued and
supported. The main purpose of the seminar is to disseminate general
information on anti-doping in sports and to offer guidance and provide a
practical tool to initiate or improve the doping prevention programmes at
national level in Brunei Darussalam.

Award, continuous effort towards appraising and rewarding performance of its
staff |

Radio Television Brunei
continues its effort to upgrade its presentation programme production
and output. In appreciation of its staff work performances, the
presentation of the 2005 RTB Award was held last night at International
Convention Centre in Berakas. The award was in recognition of effort and
services in producing creative, innovative and quality programmes that
draw most audience.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin
Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad had the honour of presenting the
awards. Topping the list of recipients was the former Director of RTB,
Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Badaruddin bin Pengiran Haji Ghani.
In all, the presentation of awards was for twenty-one categories that
included tv and radio programmes, news production and technical services
that were produced on teamwork basis. The event is RTB’s continuous
effort towards appraising and rewarding the performance of its staff and
those involved in the programme production. This year is the fifth award
night conducted by RTB since 2001. |

Five-day
HACCP training course concludes |

The five-day training
course on “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point, HACCP -
Verification and Auditing” came to an end Friday providing a lot of
exposure and experience to the course participants. According to Doctor
Kasumawati Haji Mohamad Jaafar from the Agriculture Department, the
session has been a guide to participants who are responsible for
auditing and monitoring food safety, especially those relating to food
products from factories or processing centres that are using the HACCP
management system where food safety are of utmost importance. |

More than 25 officers
and staff of various government agencies in the country including those
from the Ministry of Health, fisheries, agriculture and industrial
sectors as well as representatives from Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam,
Thailand and Laos attended the course. Two lecturers, one from Laos and
another from Malaysia spoke on the relevance of the course and the
application of the HACCP system in auditing. |

Proceeds
from 2006 Charity Futsal Championship for Katrina and Pakistan Relief Funds
|

Donations totalling
$2900 being proceeds from the 2006 Charity Futsal Championship have been
donated to the Katrina Hurricane Relief Fund and the Pakistan
Humanitarian Earthquake Relief Fund. His Royal Highness Prince Abdul
Mateen watched the two final matches that were held Friday at the Indoor
Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.
In the category for youth under 18 years of age, the Pusu ‘A’ team
emerged champions after defeating Pupu FC, two-one. Meanwhile, AM
Gunners ‘B’ won the Open category after defeating ABDB, one-nil.
Prizes were presented by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports,
Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad. Apart from
the winners, the best players of both events also received prizes.
