Brunei Darussalam celebrates Islamic New Year 1427 Hijrah Monday evening

 

Brunei Darussalam is to celebrate the New Year of 1427 Hijrah in the Muslim calendar this Monday evening. The official celebration this year will take place at the Jame Asr’ Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampung Kiarong. A full rehearsal was held Saturday to ensure the event proceeds smoothly. The climax of the celebration will be the presentation of the “Tokoh Ugama and Bakti Hijrah Awards”, to selected religious figures as well as individuals who have made significant contributions in propagating the Islamic faith in the country.

Among those present at the morning’s rehearsal were the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Seri Utama Dr. Ustaz Haji Awang Mohd. Zain; the Chief of Adat Istiadat Negara, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz; the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and the Permanent Secretary at the ministry as well as other senior government officials.

Radio Television Brunei will telecast the event live starting at six in the evening. Prayers for the year-end and one to usher in the New Year will be recited just before and after the Mass Maghrib prayer. The celebration will open to the theme “Menghayati Islam Dalam Meningkatkan Daya Saing Bangsa”.

 

BSP sponsors Islamic Dakwah Centre in conjunction with
Centre’s 20th anniversary

 

The Islamic Dakwah Centre has received a sponsorship of ten thousand dollars from Brunei Shell Petroleum, BSP, in conjunction with the centre’s 20th anniversary of establishment. The contribution was presented Saturday to the Acting Assistant Director of the Islamic Dakwah Centre, Awang Haji Mohammad bin Garing by BSP’s Deputy Managing Director, Awang Haji Zainal Abidin bin Haji Mohamad Ali.

The Islamic Dakwah Centre celebrated its 20th anniversary on 16th September 2005 with mass Maghrib and Isyak prayers and the reading of the Yassin verse. Various religious functions were also organised such as the National Dakwah Youth Seminar, Islamic Poetry Night as well as Khatam Al-Quran and the memorising of Quranic verses ceremony for new converts. Various other events organised by the centre are to be held until the middle of this year.

 

Trade School launches its ‘Business Project 2006’

 

The Trade School of the Department of Technical Education, Saturday launched its ‘Business Project 2006’. The event is part of a core unit or subject for the final year students in the BDTVEC National Diploma under the Business and Finance and Secretarial Course. Present at the launch was the Assistant Director of Department of Technical Education, Dayang Hajah Siti Aisah binti Haji Ali.

A total of 42 students taking the diploma course and 11 in secretarial are involved in the project which has been held every year since the mid 1990’s when the Business and Secretarial courses were still under the Business and Management Department of the Sultan Saiful Rijal Technical College. 6 booths have been set up for the public at the compound of the Trade School which is located near the Nursing College. The project is to test their business skills and knowledge on how to attract customers and make profits. The objective of the business project is to let students go through the process of putting theory into practice especially with what they have acquired from the two years of their course such as in Enterprise Planning and Marketing. This will prepare them for what might face them after completing their course at the end of this year.
