His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam states
that this year is a ‘YEAR OF HARD WORK’.
His Majesty conveys the intention in the titah to the nation that
was broadcast on Radio Television Brunei last evening. It
marks the beginning of the new year 1427 Hijrah. In the titah, His
Majesty calls on everybody to be determined in
implementing successfully the intended development programmes. To
achieve this, His Majesty emphasises this is the year for
hard work, with the objective of happiness in this world and
salvation in the hereafter. The Monarch also outlines the
nation’s role as a member of the international community, in
regional and global efforts.
His Majesty stresses the fact that we’re in the middle of an ever
changing world where regional and global issues continue to
obstruct all the time. Naturally, this requires more wisdom and
caution. His Majesty points out that avoid the problems
either actively or passively is wrong, and that everyone has to
participate in regional and global efforts to handle various
issues such as the environment, eradicating crimes and controlling
pandemics. The Monarch adds that participation is not
merely in carrying out responsibilities as a member of the
international community, but must also be motivated by pure
religious sense. Islam is a religion of blessings for all the
universe, that advocates mutual respect among people, not
hostility or self isolation. His Majesty the blessings must be
translated into policies of regional and global cooperation,
such that when domestic religious programmes are implemented, the
intention is to spread the blessings to all, that bring
happiness in this world and the next life.
In the titah, His Majesty outlines at length, efforts to produce an
excellent young Muslim generation. This is done through
a comprehensive religious education and schooling programme. The
heart and soul of this initiative is the teaching of
religious rites and al-Quran.
In relation to this, His Majesty highlights that the government
introduced the religious education system almost half a
century ago. It has helped the people in learning religious
knowledge, especially in religious rites and Al-Quran. Adult
religious education followed suit a few years later. Since then,
religious education has moulded our life as Muslims,
bringing enlightenment. The Monarch adds Brunei is known for its
healthy religious practices, that never caused any
misunderstandings. His Majesty believes, the approach suits Brunei
well, and calls on the people to practise and preserve it.
His Majesty is confident, the role of religious schools and
education is not only to make things look better, but also to
develop or build civilisation and life. Without such a role,
civilisation and life could be like a ship without cargo, that
benefits no one.
His Majesty also stresses his hope to equip the children of Brunei
Darussalam with religious knowledge, to assist them in
facing future challenges that are different from what we face today.
The Monarch also reminds that one quarter billion
dollars provisioned for the Human Resource Development Programme
should include this objective, in order to produce truly
educated and skilled Bruneians.
With regards to this, His Majesty stresses that every Muslim child
in Brunei must be taught to practise personal religious
obligations properly. They should at least be proficient in prayer
and Quran reading. In this regards, the suitability of
the curriculum should be studied thoroughly. The conclusion of all
objectives in education is to produce pious citizens, who
will become righteous leaders. Therefore, His Majesty hopes the
teaching of Islamic Religious Knowledge (IRK) in public
schools must be put in order.
In the titah, the Monarch reminds everybody the children or the new
generations face a future different from their elders’,
that demands them to be educated and skilled. Not only that, they
also need strong faith to become pious and this cannot be
neglected since the world today is increasingly turning more towards
moral deterioration. In this relation, His Majesty
believes, the Human Resource Development Programme approved recently
with funds worth 250 million dollars, will see that
people produced by the programme are educated, skilled and pious
Bruneians. |
