Jordan
King arrives in sultanate for three-day private visit |

Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan
of Brunei Darussalam was at the Brunei International Airport to welcome
His Majesty King Abdullah the Second Bin Al-Hussein, King of the
Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. |

His Majesty King
Abdullah the Second arrived Wednesday morning for a three-day private
visit. Also present at the airport were His Royal Highness Prince Haji
Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince; and Senior Minister at the Prime
Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bolkiah, the
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade.His Majesty King Abdullah the
Second last visited Brunei in February 2004 |

Majesty hosts dinner in honour of visiting Jordanian King |

His Majesty Sultan Haji
Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan
of Brunei Darussalam last night hosted a dinner in honour of the
visiting Jordanian King. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam welcomed His Majesty King Abdullah the Second Bin
Al-Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan at the Li Gong Restaurant
of the Empire Hotel and Country Club. |

Present at the dinner was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee
Billah, the Crown Prince; and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s
Office and His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah. The Jordan Monarch
arrived in the sultanate Wednesday for a three-day private visit.

Brunei Darussalam and Jordan established diplomatic relations after Brunei
gained its independence in 1984. Brunei has also established its mission in
Amman, the capital of Jordan. Brunei Darussalam and Jordan maintain warm and
cordial relations.

Pacific Command and wife |

His Majesty Sultan Haji
Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam consented to receive in audience the Commander of United
States Pacific Command. The audience took place at Istana Nurul Iman,
Wednesday.
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to
receive in audience Admiral William Fallon. The Admiral and his 16 member
delegation is in the country on a three-day official introductory visit. |

Present at the audience
were the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Pehin
Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi, the Permanent Secretary at the Prime
Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Haji Sulaiman and the Permanent Secretary
at the Ministry of Defence, Awang Haji Mustapa bin Haji Sirat. Also
there was the Unites States Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His
Excellency Emil M. Skodon. |

Meanwhile in another
part of the Istana Nurul Iman, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak
Hajah Saleha granted an audience to wife of the Commander of the United
States Pacific Command, Mrs. Mary Fallon. Her Majesty also consented to
receive a pasambah (gift). Mrs. Fallon is accompanying her husband who
is in the sultanate on an official visit. |

Accompanying Mrs. Mary
Fallon at the audience was wife of the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces, Datin Hajah Kalsum, and wife of the US Ambassador, Mrs. Dorothea
Skodon. Also present was Yang Di-Muliakan Seri Laila Pengiring Diraja Datin
Seri Utama Hajah Rosnah. |

By the command of His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Prime
Minister’s Office announces that His Majesty has consented that Dato
Paduka Haji Ghani bin Haji Omar - currently Acting Deputy Commissioner
of Police - be confirmed to the post of Deputy Commissioner of Police,
effective from the first of last month. |

US Pacific Commander pays courtesy call on RBAF Commander |

The visiting Commander
of the United States Pacific Command of the US Navy, Wednesday paid a
courtesy call on the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Major General Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi received Admiral
William J. Fallon at the Bolkiah Garrison. The US Ambassador, His
Excellency Emil Mark Skodon was also present. |

BITEX
2006 opens in Gadong |

Apart from the
government, the private sector and members of the public also play a
critical role in achieving success to the government’s desire in
enhancing Info Communication Technology in various scopes of fields
including industry and education. The Deputy Permanent Secretary One at
the Ministry of Defence, Pengiran Dato Paduka Mashor bin Pengiran Ahmad
laid the emphasis when he officially declared open BITEX 2006 in Gadong,
Wednesday.
In his address, Pengiran Dato Mashor said the BITEX 2006 exhibition is
not just to widely promote and disseminate knowledge on ICT development
but is also responsible in accelerating information technology of the
country. Efforts to accelerate ICT development, he added, should not be
shouldered by the government alone but should be supported by pro-active
involvement of the private sector and members of the public as consumers
are no less important in expediting the expansion process of ICT.
In conjunction with BITEX 2006, ten orphans of the Pengiran Muda Mahkota
Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund are awarded with ten ICDL educational packages
sponsored by BITEX Company Sendirian Berhad, ICDL Asia Pacific parent
company and private educational institutions. The ICDL programme or
International Computer Driving License is a certificate of skill in
computer usage organised by the Brunei Darussalam Computer Association.
17 local companies representing the Royal Brunei Airlines,
Telecommunications, computer dealers, educational institutions and banks
are involved in the exhibition. This year’s exhibition is themed
“Information Technologies - Bridging the Diversity of Sector”. Organised
by the Brunei Darussalam Computer Association, BITEX 2006 will be held
for five days. |

has added Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to its international networking
routes commencing 11th of May. The thrice weekly service to the city
will depart every Monday, Thursday and Sunday while the return services
leave Ho Chi Minh every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
