play a critical role in lifting the spirit of their loved ones admitted to
hospital |
| |
|
The Minister of Health,
has stressed on the importance of family members to know the situation
regarding the sick and in primary care so that they can look after the
patients once they are home. He elaborated families play a very
important role in comforting the body and lifting the spirit of the
sick. And patients too depend on the family who understand their needs
and have influence on their recovery and be involved in care and
decision-making and to speak on their behalf. |
|
|
When patients are
discharged it is the family members who take over and help them to
recover at home. Pehin also said that as visitors of the sick, they
needed to be mindful of the dangers they exposed themselves to. Pehin
Dato Paduka Haji Suyoi made the reminder Sunday at the opening of the
National Pre-natal Symposium entitled ‘infection’. |
|
The theme focuses on
infection from the point of view of Pre-natal Infections during
pregnancy and around the time of birth. Infection is not only a major

Ten point
six million children under the age of five die each year |
| |
|
Ten point six million
children under the age of five die each year, mostly due to indirect
causes such as HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria and Anaemia. Such cases are
dominant in the developing countries, with 98 percent of deaths. In her
talk at the perinatal symposium, The Specialist and Head of Obstetrician
and Gyneacology of RIPAS Hospital, Doctor Hajah Roselina underlined that
out of the almost 11 million deaths, four million died within 28 days of
birth, 3.3 million were stillborn babies and 0.5 million women died in
childbirth. |
 |
|
Doctor Hajah Roselina said that congenital
and Perinatal infections lead to adverse outcomes such as miscarriages,
which are the common causes and congenital abnormality damage may not
manifest until after birth. All these and stillbirth need attention to
move towards universal access to meet the Millenium Development Goal of
2015 - only nine years away. |
|
|
The evidence so far
suggests that while there has been some progress, too many countries,
particularly the poorest, are falling behind in health. Thus with the
appropriate action and hygenic care, it is hoped that the problems faced
around the world would be reduced. |
