Crown Prince makes working visit to Directorate of Operation of RBAF

 

 

His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Wednesday consented to continue his series of working visits to the Directorate of Operation of the Ministry of Defence at Bolkiah Garrison. 

The visit is a follow-up to His Royal Highness’s visits to the Ministry of Defence in January and February this year. His Royal Highness was greeted on arrival by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Pehin Retired Colonel Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin; the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Eusoff Agaki; the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Halbi; the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Haji Sulaiman and by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence; Haji Mustappa bin Haji Sirat as well as Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Defence and senior officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

 
 


His Royal Highness’s visit began with a briefing on the structure and organisation of the Directorate of Operations delivered by its Acting Director, Lieutenant Colonel Haji Abu Bakar bin  Haji Hassan. His Royal Highness also consented to visit a Joint Operation Centre at the Directorate of Operations and to witness the set up and its manning. His Royal Highness Prince General Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince later consented to sign the royal parchment to mark the working visit.

 

Federation of British International Schools in South East Asia 'FOBISSEA'

 

His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik has consented to attend the welcoming dinner for The Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia ‘FOBISSEA’ under 15’s Games 2006. Upon arrival at the Jerudong Empire Hotel, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Principal, Chief Executive Office of the Jerudong International School, Mr John Price and members of the organizing committee. Also present were the Minister Of Health, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Suyoi and the Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Dato Paduka Haji Hamdillah.

At the gathering, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik consented to present trophys to the team captain, which marks the official opening of the 2006 games. His Royal Highness also received a pasambah from the Jerudong International School. The Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia brings together more than three hundred students from fifteen English medium international school, aged thirteen to fifteen to compete in sports ranging from swimming to athletics, basketball and football. Brunei Darussalam is being represented by the International School Brunei and Jerudong International School.

 

Members of public advised not to panic regarding Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease

 
 

All primary schools and religious schools in Brunei Darussalam have been given immediate leave as a precautionary measure to reported outbreaks of the Hand-Foot-and Mouth Disease in the country. The Ministry of Education, in its media release, announced the school leave effective today for primary school children including those going to day-care centres.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Religious Affairs announced that religious school pupils from pre-school to primary six as well as Arabic preparatory classes are also given the school leave. However, students attending religious classes at secondary schools such as the Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College and the Syaiddina Othman Secondary school will not be affected. The leave will be effective as of today, 9 March until further notice.

 
 

The Ministry of Education is working closely with the Ministry of Health in monitoring the situation and will inform concerned parents and the public of further development. Over 30 cases of the Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease have been confirmed. Members of the public are advised not to panic as almost all the affected patients have been treated and discharged.

Social Security Program has to be dynamically adaptable to future social and economic changes

 

Social Security Program is increasingly difficult to administer given the fact that it has to be dynamically adaptable to future social and economic changes. Most discussions on policy reforms have revolved around economic sustainability of a nation arising from such reforms. This was highlighted by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports at the ASEAN Social Security Association, ASSA, Board welcoming dinner Wednesday night at the Mall, Gadong.

Pehin Retired Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad, in his capacity as Chairman of Brunei Darussalam’s Employees Trust Fund, said social security institutions therefore have to ensure that they can guarantee an adequate standard of living for all, putting particular emphasis on the old-aged, disabled people, those with ill-health and other contingencies.

The programs among other things include disability benefits such as injury, illness or disease or unemployment. At the function, Pehin presented a token of appreciation to ASSA Board members which consist of ASEAN member countries. The 17th ASSA Board Meeting was hosted by the Employees Trust Fund Board of Brunei Darussalam.

 

Several factors on traditional systems of economic security increasingly unworkable

 
 

Earlier Wednesday, the Acting Managing Director of the Employees Trust Fund said the Pre-ASEAN Social Security Association, ASSA member institutions are all faced with uncertainties arising from unemployment, illnesses, disability, death and even old age. In the realm of economics, these inevitable facets of life are said to be a threat to one’s economic security.

Awang Yusof Bin Haji Abdul Rahman emphasized the matter at the Pre-ASEAN Social Security Association, ASSA Board Meeting Seminar. In his welcoming speech, he also said all member institutions acknowledge the fact that several factors have rendered these traditional systems of economic security increasingly unworkable, among which is the disappearance of the extended family culture, a marked increase in life expectancy, urbanization process and the transformation of the majority of working population from self-employed agricultural workers to wage earners.

 

He said that today’s globalisation represents not only new external pressures which societies must adapt to, but also new domestic challenges and demands to which they must respond. Five speakers were invited to present their papers on various topics ranging from Pension fund Systems to Investment strategies.

 

Hundred years of relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Great Britain

 

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports  said the impact of influence from Great Britain on the landscape of the country’s socio-politic, economy and education for nearly 80 years has been discussed in various aspects of research by historians. The findings of the research need to be disclosed to the public especially the young generation, so that the country’s history with Great Britain can be understood as to avoid deviations of historical facts.

 
 

Pehin Retired Major General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohamad stated this at the official Launching of the Third Brunei History Seminar at the Brunei International Convention Centre in Berakas Wednesday. The minister said historical facts had shown that all changes which were experienced under the British administration system had exposed the rakyat to the current of modernation which led to various attitudes and life styles which are more open.

The lifestyle, he said, created new reflections based on nationalisme in Asia and also the African Region. The two day seminar aims to recall the hundred years of relationship between Brunei Darussalam and Great Britain from1906 to 2006. The seminar discusses the Era of Pasca Agreement 1905-1906 between Brunei Darussalam and Great Britain which was signed by Sultan Hashim Jalilul Alam Aqamaddin and John Anderson.

 
 

The implication of relations in the aspects of politic and social in Brunei Darussalam is also being discussed while elaborating the ability of Brunei Darussalam to gain independence from Britain. A total of eighteen working papers will be delivered at the seminar.

The seminar which carries the theme “Hundred years Brunei-Great Britain Relation ship 1906 - 2006” and is being organized by Brunei History Centre in conjunction of the 22nd Brunei Darussalam National Day Celebration.

 

Syariah Affairs holds Roadshow on Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order 2005

 

The Director of Syariah Affairs said it is deemed high time for all parties especially those involved in the selling and processing of food to be aware of the needs and importance of practising cleanliness and purity in food preparations. Awang Haji Mohamad Zaimi bin Haji Talip underlined this at a Roadshow on Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order 2005.

 
 

He said that cleanliness in handling food should be monitored by both the entrepreneurs and consumers. For the consumers especially, they have the rights to determine weather or not the food products purchased fulfilled their good taste in the aspect of its total quality.

This becomes of greater concern in facing the risk of diseases that they can faced from the carelessness of food operators. Nearly 400 business operators including restaurateurs and food producers attended the roadshow held Wednesday at the Seri Begawan Teachers Training College in Jalan Tutong.

It aim was to introduce the halal certificate and halal labels which are to be enforced very soon and to give information and understanding of its enforcement as well as matters pertaining to applications of permit for the halal certificate and label.

 

Technical Committee of 6th ASEAN Skills Competition holds their second day meeting

 

The Technical Committee of the 6th ASEAN Skills Competition, Wednesday held their second day meeting.  The objective of the meeting is to adopt from 38 world skills test projects to be used and implemented in the 6th ASEAN Skills Competition.

The criteria of the skills test questions will be modified accordingly to the standard of the World Skill Competition for each of the skill areas.  Among others discussed at the meeting was the time for the test will be extended; marks allocations are being adjusted and the level of difficulty, skills and knowledge will also be maintained.

 

Applications to perform haj must be submitted by 14th of this month

 
 

The Haj Management Department wishes to inform officers and staff of His Majesty’s Government who are still in service and those who have retired that applications to perform the haj for the year 2006 season 1427 Hijriah must be submitted to their heads of department by the 14th of this month.  Following that, the departments should forward the applications to the Haj Management Department before the 28th of April this year.

 

Application for further advanced education on IKHTISAS abroad now opens for registration

 

Application for degree courses, further advanced education on IKHTISAS abroad for academic session 2006-2007 by the Department of Islamic Studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs is now open for registration.  

The application form can be obtained at the Training and Scholarship Division, Department of Islamic studies, Ministry of Religious Affairs, 14th Floor Block 2J Room 03, Condominium Jalan Ong Sum Ping.  Closing date for application is Thursday, 30 March 2006.

 

Royal Brunei Armed Force's Athletics Meet 2005

 

The Royal Brunei Land Forces has emerged as the overall champion of a two-day Royal Brunei Armed Force, RBAF Athletic Meet 2005.

12 events were competed in the championship which was held at the Penanjong Garrison in Tutong. Prizes were presented by the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Halbi.
