The country needs assistance from retired government officers and employees

 

 

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs said the country needs the assistance of retired government officers and staff to help generate a young generation that possess a high moral, good character and personal quality with knowledge and skills as well as religious and national values. Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Dani made the remarks during the opening of the Ninth Annual meeting of the Association of Former Government Officers and Staff-PAKATAN, Sunday. 

Pehin welcomed the association’s involvement as a partner to the government, private or non-governmental organisations in planning and working on various plans to develop the nation and youth in Mukim and Kampong especially in entrepreneurship, businesses, culture, religion, sportsmanship and others. He also hoped that programs organised by the association would be directed and focused towards assisting the community especially the youth by providing job opportunities, while at the same time helping the government overcome problems of unemployment in the country.

 

Pehin presented three hundred dollars contributed by the PAKATAN Association to a fire victim, Dayang Hajah Siti Hawa binti Mohamad.  The PAKATAN Association was established on 14th September 1994 and has cooperative ventures in businesses such as a Petrol Station, School bus and Commercial shop premises.  The meeting was held at the Seri Kenangan Hall of Tutong’s Community Complex.

 

Proactive efforts in ensuring a clean, comfortable and safe village environment

 

Proactive efforts in ensuring a clean, comfortable and safe village environment, must be sustained by Mukim and Kampong Consultative Councils for the prosperity of residents in the country. The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs stated this at the presentation of an appointment certificate to Ketua Kampong Menengah Sunday.

 

Dato Paduka Haji Adnan said the amount of one hundred thousand dollars which has been allocated for Mukim and Kampong Consultative Councils must be utilized wisely for community purposes. It is hoped that the body would move proactively in respond to the Ministry of Home Affairs call. Dato Haji Adnan however said every activity should be well-planned and implemented at an appropriate period.

The certificate was handed over to Retired Major Ampuan Hussain bin Mattahir. He has served as the new Kampong Menengah Head of Village since the 16th of January this year, replacing Awang Hamdan bin Haji Awang Besar who is now Penghulu of Mukim Bangar. He supervises five villages namely, kampong Sungai Tanit, Kampong Sungai Tanam, Kampong Parit Belayang, Kampong Sungai Sulok and Kampong Kastam Lama with a total of six hundred and seventy five people.

 
 

The Sports festival among Ministries Launch at the Indoor Stadium

 
 

The Sports festival among Ministries being organised by the Youth and Sport Department with cooperation of National Sport Association of Brunei Darussalam was launched Sunday.

Launching the festival at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sport Complex was the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dato Paduka Haji Yakub bin Abu Bakar. 

 
 

Four events namely athletics, futsal, volleyball and basketball will be competed in the sports festival. Sunday’s event began with futsal competition between Ministry of Religious Affair and Ministry of Development. The match ended with 1-all draw.

 

ABDB ‘E’ emerged as champions in the national level sepak takraw championship

 

ABDB ‘E’ emerged as champions in the national level sepak takraw championship after defeating ABDB ‘B’. In the final match held at the Menglait Sports Complex, Sunday night.  ABDB ‘E’ won the match in straight sets:  21-13, 21-19.

Seventeen teams took part in the championship which was organised by the Islamic Commerce International Merchant Bankers, CIMB, in conjunction with the country’s 22nd National Day. Prizes were presented by the Brunei Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yussop.

 

The 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne begin in two days time

 
 

The 18th Commonwealth Games in Melbourne will begin in two days time. The city is now busy with the arrival of athletes and officials from seventy countries and sports councils.

Sunday, the General Assembly meeting of the Commonwealth Sports Federation was held and was attended by members of the National Olympic Council of the participating countries. Brunei Darussalam was represented by the Secretray-General of the Brunei National Olympic Council, Awang Jaafar Bangkol who is also Chef De Mission to the Commonwealth Games.

 

The meeting discussed the progress and preparations of the host country as well as the preparations by New Delhi, India which will host the 19th Commonwealth Games in 2010. The meeting also discussed preparations to hold the Youth Commonwealth Games in 2008, and the selection of the host of the next Commonwealth Games in 2014. The next meeting will be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

 

About 30 participants take part in Cycling Race Championship

 

In Kuala Belait, about 30 participants took part in Cycling Race Championship. The 148 kilometer race covered two districts, Belait and Tutong. The championship was divided into individual and group categories.

The race started and ended at the Jubilee Park of Jalan Maulana, Kuala Belait. Muhammad Rukh Zaidin Ahmad emerged as champion in the individual category while Persatuan Lumba Basikal Tutong won first place in the group category.
