Village leaders should motivate residents to
engage in productive economic activity |

Penghulus, ketua
kampungs and longhouses are called to be more focused and encouraged
residents and people under their leadership to be actively-motivating
activities related to the economy especially in agriculture, fishing,
tourism, handicraft and food industry. The call came from the Minister
of Home Affairs, at the final of the reading of Al-Quran competition for
penghulus, ketua kampungs and longhouses throughout the country,
Friday. |

Pehin Dato
Paduka Haji Adanan said mukims and kampungs in the country have their
uniqueness and specialties that can produce additional quality products
that can be introduced and marketed commercially and thus upgrade the
people and rakyats’ standard of living. The Minister also touched on
the formation of the Discipline and Counseling Committee for penghulu
mukims, ketua kampungs and longhouses which took effect from last
January. It’s aimed at updating the management of penghulu mukims,
ketua kampungs and longhouses institutions in carrying out duties
related to discipline. |

Pengiran Haji
Aliuddin bin Pengiran Haji Damit, Ketua Kampung Zone One of the Mentiri
National Housing Scheme representing the Brunei Muara District emerged
champion in the competition. He read Verses 70 to 80 of Surah Yusuf.
Nine participants from all the four districts took part in the first
such competition. The competition was organised by the Mukim and
Kampung Institution of the Brunei Muara District Department and
conducted by the Mukim Kota Batu Consultative Council. It took place at
the Fire and Rescue Department in Berakas. |

Brunei’s Aceh
Monitoring Mission ends its tour of duty in Indonesian Province |

The involvement
of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and the Royal Brunei Police Force in
the Aceh Monitoring Mission or AMM is a new horizon in the
implementation of duties and responsibilities. This is proven through
Brunei Darussalam’s efforts in contributing to regional peace by giving
cooperation with neighbouring countries in assisting countries requiring
assistance in particular needy regional neighbours. |

The Commander of
the Royal Brunei Armed Forces made the remarks at the appreciation and
welcome ceremony of the Brunei Darussalam Aceh Monitoring Mission
contingent. Major General Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi said
the Royal Brunei Armed Forces will always support the country’s need and
interests by involving in other missions. He also urged all personnel
of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces to be always ready to fulfill whatever
the country’s need. |

The Commander
also expressed his full optimistic that the uncertain world security
landscape and climate in the future, Brunei Darussalam also responsible
and have the capabilities in involving in any peace keeping or
humanitarian missions. Therefore, military trainings and preparations
must always be carried out and planned accordingly towards an effective
roles and implementation of duties and responsibilities. |

Fourteen
officers comprising seven personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and
seven from the Royal Brunei Police Force received their appreciation
certificates after completing their monitoring assignment in Aceh.
|

|
The Brunei
Darussalam contingent began their monitoring mission in Aceh in September
last year where they were assigned to different locations in the province to
observe and monitor the implementation of cessation of hostilities as well
as the socio-economic development aspects undertaken by the Government of
Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement pursuant to the Memorandum of
Understanding signed between the two parties.
Till then, the AMM
has successfully carried out their duties and mandate with an efficient and
outstanding accomplishment. Thus the achievement has able to the formation
of AMM troops to leave only six more Brunei Darussalam peace monitors to
continually carried out their duties in Aceh until June this year.

IT course for
CLMV countries’ participants concludes in BSB |

Managing with IT
for non-IT managers Course for CLMV countries is under the Initiative
for ASEAN Integration Programme, IAI, is an endeavor to bridge the
digital gap within the countries of ASEAN. |
|
|
The Director of
Management Service Department, Awang Sa Bali Abas said at the Civil
Service Institute of Brunei Darussalam is proud to conduct the course
with the views that there is a need to deliberately intensify efforts to
assist the CLMV countries in Information and Communication Technology.
The ASEAN CLMV countries are namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Awang Sa Bali
made the statement at the Closing and Certificate Presentation Ceremony
of the training programme. Sixteen participants from Cambodia, Lao
People’s Democratic Republic, the Union of Myanmar and the Socialist
Republic of Vietnam attended the course. The course is designed
specifically for managers who have no or basic computer skills in using
IT but inevitably have to use them in their day to day work. |

Large number of
people depart for Umrah during current school holiday |

Some 300 people
left the country Thursday night to perform the Umrah or minor Haj in
Saudi’s holy cities of Madinah and Makkah. The current first-term
school holidays makes travelling and vacations abroad attractive for
Bruneian families. |

The
International Airport in Berakas was packed with people who wished to
bid farewell to members of their families, relatives and friends who
performed the Umrah. Thirteen companies have been given approval to
operate the Umrah package services for the 2005- 2006 Umrah Season. |
|
Umrah packages during the next Ramadhan is more popular and some have
register to perform the Umrah and the fare are between 3000 and 6000
Brunei dollars depending on the types of accommodation and length of
stay. For normal months, Umrah fares are available as low as two
thousand dollars per person. |
