Their Majesties
grant separate audiences to Malaysian Minister and wife |

His Majesty
Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Saturday consented to receive in
audience the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage of Malaysia, Datuk
Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim who is currently in the country with the
delegation of TITIAN BUDAYA for a joint cultural project between Brunei
Darussalam and Malaysia.
Present at the audience were the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports,
Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad, the
Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Datuk
Ali Abdullah and the Secretary General Ministry of Culture, Arts and
Heritage of Malaysia, Dato’ Siti Azizah Sheikh Abod.
Also present at the audience were the Permanent Secretary at the Prime
Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Ismail and the
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Awang
Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal. The audience ceremony took place at Istana
Nurul Iman.
Meanwhile in another part of the Istana Nurul Iman, Her Majesty Raja
Isteri Pengiran nak Hajah Saleha granted an audience to the wife of the
Malaysia’s Minister of Culture Art and Heritage, Datin Seri Masnah binti
Mahmud. During the audience, Her Majesty the Raja Isteri consented to
receive a pasambah (gift). Datin Seri Masnah is accompanying her
husband, Dato Seri Utama Dr. Rais Yatim.
Also present were the Malaysian Chief of Director Handicraft
Development, Dato Zakiah
binti Ahmad; Malaysia’s Chief Director of Cultural and Art, Puan
Noriliza Rafli; the wife of Malaysian High Commissioner to Brunei
Darussalam, Datin Wan Kamariah binti Wan Abdul Rahman and wife of the
Brunei Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Hajah Saedah binti
Haji Said. Also present was Datin Hajah Maznah binti Tuah. |

Bangladesh on its Independence Day |

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei
Darussalam has consented to send congratulatory messages to His
Excellency Professor Iajuddin Ahmed, President of the People’s Republic
of Bangladesh and Her Excellency Begum Khaleda Zia, the Prime Minister,
on the occasion of the Republic’s Independence Day Anniversary that
falls today.
Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Trade also sent a congratulatory message to His
Excellency Morshed Khan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s
Republic of Bangladesh on the republic’s anniversary. In his message,
His Royal Highness expresses his appreciation on the two countries
growing cooperation and look forward to continuing to strengthen the
much valued friendship and cooperation. |

Foreign Affairs and Trade hosts farewell luncheon for outgoing envoy |

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Trade and Yang Teramat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran
Anak Hajah Zariah, Saturday hosted a farewell luncheon for the outgoing
Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Brunei Darussalam.
The reception for His Excellency Ith Detolla and Madam Meas Vanna took
place at one of the leading hotels in the country. His Excellency Ith
Detolla has been Ambassador of the Kingdom of Cambodia to Brunei
Darussalam since May 2002. |

Art and
Handicrafts Exhibition launches at ICC |

Historically,
the relations between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia are close and firm
not only because they are of the same Malay origin and share similar
cultures as well as other aspects of relations such as education, trade
and sports. The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports stated this at the
launch of the Art and Craft Exhibition, Fashion and Film Shows, as part
of the Titian Budaya Programme, Saturday. Retired Major General Pehin
Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad said that long-standing friendly
relations and mutual respect have somewhat contribute to the existence
of peace and tranquility in the region.
He added learning from history that the Titian Budaya Programme is very
relevant to the people of both countries especially to the young
generation, so they would be more aware for the need to foster tolerance
and compassion towards bringing beneficial synergy. The fostering of
relations based on understanding through art and culture, hopefully
enables for both countries to move forth pro-actively especially in
these ever challenging time. The Minister also hopes the portrayals in
the exhibition will
encourage the people to love their arts and cultures, hence open-up many
opportunities for cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Datuk
Seri Utama Doctor Rais Yatim in his speech said in Brunei Darussalam,
there still exist historical heritage and culture that can be sources of
pride. The Titian Budaya Programme was launched together by the Brunei
Darussalam’s Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Malaysia’s
Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage at the International Convention
Centre in Berakas. The programme aims to bring forth traditional and
contemporary works of both nations through stage performances,
exhibition, demonstrations and film shows. The Art and Handicrafts
Exhibition is opened for two days, from nine in the morning to 9 in the
evening. The exhibition showcases products of Perbadanan Kemajuan
Kraftangan Malaysia. Some 17 entrepreneurs are displaying batik, songket,
wood carvings and silver products. Visitors can also witness fashion
shows and film shows. Admissions are free.
Meanwhile, the combination of cultural performance between Brunei
Darussalam and Malaysia ‘TITIAN BUDAYA’ was held last night at the
International Convention Centre in
Berakas. Among those present to witness the show was the Special Duty
Officer at the
Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Awang Mohd. Amin bin Begawan Pehin
Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Sirat. |

TAIB performs well with its
2005 year-end deposit totalling 1.4 billion dollars |

The Brunei Islamic Trust Fund or TAIB has
performed well with its 2005 year-end deposit of 1.4 billion. Among the
total account and deposit that has increased comprising that of the
Akaun Si Manja. This shows that parents’ awareness towards their
children financial has been in the increase. In this matter, TAIB will
continue to upgrade its activities in further nurturing the culture of
saving within the community.
The Deputy Minister of Development, Dato Paduka Doctor Haji Mat Suny
highlighted the matter at the TAIB Annual Dinner in conjunction with its
14th Anniversary last night.Dato Paduka Doctor Haji Mat Suny who is also
the Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAIB added that the gross
income of TAIB before audit in 2005 also shows a rise of 6.3 percents or
$5.3 billion compared to the year before.
At the function, appreciation souvenirs were presented to former
Chairman of TAIB, Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Yahya
and the former Managing Director, Dato Paduka Haji Junaidi. The
souvenirs were presented by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin
Dato Seri Utama Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Mohammad Zain who is also the
Advisor of Perbadanan TAIB.
While several officers and staffs who served for 10 and five years with
TAIB received their appreciation souvenirs from the chief guest. 12
staffs received their certificates of achievement for participating in
the First Islamic Financial Planning Certificate Module. The function
was held in Manggis. |

Parents are
advised to monitor their children’s movement |

An indication of the growing-trend with
teenagers wondering around in public places during odd hours has
prompted the law enforcement agencies to act. A joint-operation dubbed
‘Operasi Sepadu’ to monitor their activities was held early this
morning. During the about 2-hour operation which was held around the
Gadong area, 10 road traffic offences, and 4 investigative cases under
the Religious Department were recorded.
Some 146 law enforcement officers comprised of the Royal Brunei Police
Force, Royal Customs and Excise, the Religious Department, the Narcotic
Bureau and the Land Transport Department conducted the biggest operation
so far on teenagers. The operation aimed at stopping teenagers from
involving in criminal activities. The Royal Brunei Police Force advises
parents to monitor their children’s movement especially during night
time. |

Brunei share one point with
Sarawak in Malaysian Premier League |

Brunei’s DPMM FC share one point with
Sarawak after both sides finished two all in a match held last night at
the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince; was
present to watch the game. Also there was His Royal Highness Prince
Abdul Malek. Sarawak opened their account in the seventh minute through
their team captain, Raymos Sari. But DPMM FC equalised in the 29th
minute through Tiago Dos Santos Roberto.
In the 63rd minute, the visitors extended their score with another goal
through Hamidin. But DPMM FC Brunei pushed through their opponent’s
bastion making the score
two all through a penalty by Rosmin Haji Mohd. Kamis, minutes before the
whistle blew ending the game. DPMM FC Brunei will host Johor on home
ground on the 8th of April.
Other results in Group ‘A’ matches - Perak UPB defeated Terengganu
two-one, Kelantan
playing on home ground went down to Johor zero-one and Pulau Pinang NTFA
also went
down to Kedah zero-three. With last night’s results, Kedah are still at
top of the table of Group A with 26 points. |
