Crown Prince attributes ability of citizens to celebrate HM’s birthday to nation’s peace and prosperity

 

 

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the peaceful and prosperous state of Brunei Darussalam that enable the rakyat and citizens to celebrate the 60th birthday anniversary of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam this July.  In his remarks at the Third Meeting of the National Committee of the Royal Birthday Celebrations Monday, His Royal Highness expressed his confidence that the high spirit, determination and cooperation shown by members of the committee will ensure that every celebratory event, either at the national or district level, is successful. The joyous occasion, His Royal Highness added, will not only be felt by the rakyat and citizens but is also shared with foreign tourists.  

Earlier, on arrival at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in Jerudong, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Chief of Adat Istiadat, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz, Adviser and Deputy Chairman to the National Committee of His Majesty’s 60th Birthday Celebration; the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan in his capacity as Chairman, and other committee members.  

 
 

During the meeting, His Royal Highness who is “Patron” to the National Committee was briefed of preparations in Brunei’s four districts.  It was attended by Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Permanent Secretaries, District Officers and senior officers from various ministries. Among matters discussed was the concept for the traditional get-together ceremony between His Majesty and his rakyat and citizens.  His Royal Highness the Crown Prince’s itinerary concluded with a luncheon.  The Crown Prince’s presence clearly shows his deep concern toward the implementation of state ceremonies and serves as encouragement to all concerned to be more committed and dedicated.

 

Indonesia expresses gratitude to His Majesty’s care and concern in plight of Aceh people

 

The Government of Indonesia has expressed a deep appreciation and gratitude to His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, for the Monarch’s care and concern to the people of Aceh who suffered from the tsunami disaster more than a year ago.  The country’s Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Herijanto Soeprapto said the Monarch toured the area shortly after the calamity struck Aceh, giving a deep and lasting impression among the people of Indonesia.  Two months ago, members of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation visited Aceh as a follow-up

to the handing-over of contributions from the people of Brunei to the Indonesian Province. His Excellency Herijanto praised the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation’s team who is currently undertaking a project to build a Brunei Village in Aceh.  The village consists of 70 units of houses, a mosque, a clinic, a school and an Islamic Religious School or “Pesantren” in the Village of Leupung, Kecamatan Memplan in Banda Aceh.

 

 

 

His Excellency was speaking Monday at a conference titled “Towards the Development of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam - Nias after Tsunami”.  The conference heard a report from the Director of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency for Aceh and Nias, Mdm. Nazmiyah Sayuti, on the recovery effort, one year after the tsunami.  She spoke on the recovery programme which has now gained momentum and requires funds of between 150 and 200 million US dollars per month.  


Currently, around 30 thousand houses have been rebuilt.  The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation and Tsunami Humanitarian Fund National Fund have allocated two point two million dollars to Aceh.  Among those who attended the conference were the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohamad; the  Managing-Director of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation, Dato Paduka Haji Ali Hashim, foreign missions in the country, as well as government and non-government agencies.
 
 

Situation of FHM Disease still not stable

 
 

The Ministry of Health said 14 people were reported to have been infected with the Hand, Foot and Mouth disease recently, 7 cases in the Brunei Muara District, two in Kuala Belait and five in Tutong.  There were no new cases in Temburong.  The ministry said the figure has brought to 368 the number of infections since the disease emerged on the first of this month.  

Members of the public are again reminded to practice personal hygiene, particularly in washing hands with soap and clean water.  As an extra precautionary measure, the ministry also advised that all public places including toilets be kept clean at all times. Parents and guardians must take their children immediately to hospital or health clinics if they show any sign of symptoms.  Children who have received treatment are advised to stay at home and avoid going to public places including schools until they are fully recovered.  For further information on the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease, the public can contact these numbers: 2227785 or 2242424 extension 393.

 
 

Deputy Minister of Education launches GetwaytoEnglish.com at ASEAN-EC

 
 

The Deputy Minister of Education lauded the introduction of the GatewaytoEnglish.com website, saying it is an encouraging development in the Curriculum Development Department’s mission to optimise and enhance the value of educational resources that are being made available to teachers and students.  Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad made the remarks at the official launching Monday of the GetwaytoEnglish.com, at the ASEAN-EC Management Centre in Gadong.

The website is part of the GatewaytoEnglish course materials co-published by Macmillan Publishers Limited and the Curriculum Development Department, with the support of the Educational Centre for British Teachers, CFBT.  It also provides additional revision, extension and enrichment materials to complement the recently-completed GatewaytoEnglish textbook course for Forms 1, 2 and 3.  The website contains illustrated worksheets, stories, poems, reading texts, PMB Exam practice and tape scripts.  There are also web links to a range of other useful sites containing resources for teachers and tips on methodology.

 
 

Halal roadshow continues

 
 

A roadshow on ‘Halal Certification Order and Halal Label’ continued Monday as part of the government’s efforts to introduce the details of the certification and labelling that will be soon enforced in the country.  There was also a briefing on guide-line for applying Halal Certification and Halal Label.  

Held at the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Thafiz Institute, the briefing was attended by officers and staffs of law enforcement agencies.
