Their Majesties
grant separate audiences to Chief of Indonesian People's Consultative
Assembly and wife |

His Majesty
Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to receive in audience the
Chief of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly, DPR-RI. The
audience ceremony took place at the Istana Nurul Iman, Wednesday. His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to
receive in audience His Excellency Bapak Agung Laksono. His Excellency
and delegation are currently in the sultanate for a three-day goodwill
visit. |

Also present at
the audience were the Speaker of the Brunei Legislative Council,
Pengiran Indera Mahkota Pengiran Anak Doctor Haji Kalamuddin; the
Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Dato Seri
Paduka Haji Awang Yahya; the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and
Trade, Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Lim Jock Seng; the Permanent Secretary at
the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Haji Sulaiman and the
Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Herijanto
Soeprapto. |

Meanwhile in
another part of Istana Nurul Iman, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak
Hajah Saleha consented to receive in audience the wife of the Chief of
the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly. Her Majesty the Raja
Isteri consented to receive in audience Ibu Silvia Agong Laksono.
During the audience, Her Majesty also consented to receive a pasambah
(gift). |

Present at the
audience was Pengiran Anak Datin Paduka Hajah Siti Rafeah. Also present
were the wife of the Indonesian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, Ibu
Koesmoekamdarimah Herijanto and Datin Hajah Masnah binti Haji Tuah. |

OIC members urge
to work together to further progress and welfare of people |

Brunei
Darussalam, with the cooperation of the Malaysian Government being
Chairman of the Organisation of Islamic Conference, OIC, and the Islamic
Development Bank of Jeddah, is hosting the Fourth Senior Officials’
Meeting of the Steering Committee on Capacity Building Programme for OIC
countries. |

The Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Awang Shofry bin
Abdul Ghafor, in his welcoming remarks, highlighted the need for OIC
members to work together to further the progress and welfare of the
people. He emphasized the importance of capacity building which makes
up a critical component in development strategies of the member
countries. The two-day meeting will address matters related to
multilateral partnership for alleviating poverty through the creation of
economic opportunities and better capacities in the least developed
member countries of the OIC. The meeting is being held in Jerudong. |

Cooperation and
public role are deemed crucial to evade the danger of the Avian
Influenza Virus from infecting humans. As a preventive measure, members
of the public are fed information on the disease as currently there is
no effective treatment and vaccine available. |
|

The Ministry of
Development in collaboration with the Agriculture Department and the
Ministry of Health, Wednesday organised talks on Avian Flu and Influenza
Pandemic. Officers and staff of the Ministry of Development and
departments under it attended the talks, which were delivered by
representatives of the Agriculture Department and the Ministry of
Health. The topic, among other things, provided comprehensive
information on the deadly disease and early preventive measures.

present were the Permanent Secretary for Administration and Finance,
Dato Paduka Haji Matassan, and the Permanent Secretary for Technical and
Professional, Awang Haji Said. |

Education forum
to mark 20th Anniversary of UBD |

A forum which
carried the theme; “Pendidikan Berkualiti Menjana Pembangunan” or
“Development through Quality Education” was held Wednesday at the
Universiti Brunei Darussalam. The forum also marks the 20th Anniversary
of the Formation of Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Present at the forum
was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Dato Paduka
Haji Sheikh Adnan. |

Four invited
panels at the forum were the Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry
of Education, Dayang Apsah binti Haji Abdul Majid; the Director General
of Civil Service, Dato Paduka Haji Saifon; the President of the Malay
Chamber of Commerce, Awang Haji Razali bin Haji Johari and the UBD’s
Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Doctor Haji Mohd. Yussof. The forum
discussed ideas from relevant authorities related to educational system
in the country. |
