Little stars sing their hearts out at Bintang Kecil 2005

   

The granddaughters of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Raheemah Sanaul Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hariisah Widadul Bolqiah, consented to attend the Bintang Kecil RTB-KRISTAL 2005.

 
 

Upon arrival at the Dewan Raya, Radio Television Brunei in the capital, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Raheemah Sanaul Bolkiah and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Hariisah Widadul Bolqiah were greeted by members of the Organising Committee. Ten participants competed in the event. This year, short messages service or SMS was used as additional 5 percent marking to those of the professional jury.

   
   

Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Raheemah Sanaul Bolkiah consented to present the prizes to the winners. Hanny Bahriyah binte Awang Haji Yussof emerged as the winner. She received one thousand three hundred dollars in cash prize, a Challenge Oscar and a trophy. Khairi Akmal bin Maidin came in second with a trophy and a cash prize of one thousand dollars and third place was

 
 

won by Awangku Muhd Hafizam bin Pengiran Hamdani who received a trophy and a cash prize of four hundred dollars.

 
 

Apart from nurturing talents among the youngsters, the competition also aims to expose and encourage them to compete in a healthy environment. The Bintang Kecil contest was introduced in 1978.

 
 

Staff and teachers of Education Ministry hold get-together in Temburong

 

The Ministry of Education has organised a get-together program or "Ramah Mesra Ria" with the intention of strengthening the existing relationship and harmony among teachers, staff and officers of the ministry.

 
   

The Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Aziz, officiated at the one day program held at the Temburong Civic Centre and Belalong Mini Recreation Bangar Temburong. Also present were the Deputy Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Suyoi Bin Haji Osman, as well as Permanent Secretaries and Senior Officers of the Ministry.

 
 

Earlier, the Minister himself and his delegation along with teachers and staff from seventeen primary and secondary schools in the country took part in the program which began with a warm up aerobic exercise. At the Taman Mini Belalong, the Minister of Education joined by senior officers and teachers participated in the fishing competition.

   
   

The next stop over for the minister was Kampung Senukoh. In an interview with RTB during the visit to the village, the Minister stressed that the tour aimed at enhancing goodwill relationships among educators, particularly those in the Temburong District, with the hope that they can always move forward with single integrated aspiration.

 
 

With the current effort, Yang Berhormat Pehin said, they will be able to move step-by-step to various parts of other districts. At the vicinity, the Minister of Education also took the opportunity to take part in the "Mengamping" activity, one of the traditional methods of making local traditional food from padi. The Minister also joined by the other members of his delegation also involved in the padi harvesting activity.

   
 

Volunteers complete fire fighting training course

 

 

The Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adanan has presented certificates to sixty new fire service volunteers from ten kampungs under the Lambak Kanan National Housing Scheme. It marked the completion of fire fighting training organised by the Fire Services Department.

 

 

The presentation of the certificates was made at the launching ceremony to mark the Fire Services' Programme Day with the community, held Sunday afternoon. The recipients were the first group of residents to familiarize and equip themselves with fire prevention knowledge.

 

 

 

Among the groups were the Penghulus and Ketua Kampungs. The newly trained volunteers also demonstrated their skills on emergency aid and how to deal with the outbreak of fires. Sunday's Fire Services Day also saw a walkathon to raise funds for the tsunami victims, apart from an exhibition on fire safety and equipment put up by local agencies. 

 

 

300 cyclists mark World Water Day with bicycle expedition

 

A bicycle expedition to mark the World Water Day has attracted the participation of nearly three hundred cyclists.  The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Development, Awang Haji Mohamad Jumin bin Haji Marsal was present to lead the event.

 

 

The 37.5 kilometre race started and finished at the Public Works Department in Berakas, taking the participants to Jalan Berakas, Tutong-Muara Highway and Jalan Tungku Link.

 

 

The more than one hour expedition was aimed at forging closer relations among cycling enthusiasts, while promoting good health through an effective physical exercise for energy building and self-endurance.

 

 

Bangar Festival 2005 hopes to attract more visitors to Temburong

 

The Temburong District has launched the Bangar Festival 2005. The festival was officiated by the Acting Temburong District Officer, Awang Shahminan Hj Tengah.

 

 

The event, one of the initiatives of the Culture and Tourism body of the Temburong District, was aimed at attracting more visitors to the district. During the event, various cultural performances and singing contest will be staged.
