His Majesty extends greetings to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam expresses his satisfaction with the warm and friendly relations and deep understanding that have so long been established between Brunei Darussalam and the Kingdom of Denmark.

His Majesty hopes that this would be maintained and enhanced in the future for the good of the two countries and people. His Majesty made the statement in congratulatory messages to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, the Queen of the Kingdom of Denmark and His Excellency Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark on the occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam also hopes that Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, the Queen of the Kingdom of Denmark would always remain in good health and happiness and for the people of the Kingdom of Denmark to always enjoy continued progress and prosperity.

In a similar congratulatory message to His Excellency Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Denmark, His Majesty congratulates His Excellency and the Government and People of the Kingdom of Denmark on the occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. His Majesty also wishes His Excellency Anders Fogh Rasmussen continued good health and happiness and for the prosperity of the people of the Kingdom of Denmark.

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamad Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs has also sent a congratulatory message to His Excellency Per Stig Moller, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom of Denmark on the occasion of the Birthday of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II, Queen of Kingdom of Denmark.

In his message, His Royal Highness congratulates Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II and the Royal family, the government and people of Denmark on her Majesty's birthday. His Royal Highness also expressed his appreciation and friendly relations which both countries enjoy and look forward to continuing to work together both bilaterally and regionally.

 
Number of Tuberculosis cases on the decline

Tuberculosis or TB is one of the world's infectious diseases and is currently infecting one third of the world's population. Last year Brunei Darussalam recorded a total number of 180 cases, of which those aged between twenty-one to twenty-years-old showed the highest number of sufferers.

Males also accounted for a larger number of sufferers compared to females. This was disclosed during the Forum in conjunction with World Tuberculosis Day, with this years’ theme for Western Pacific Region - "Find TB, Cure TB" - in Tutong recently.

Year 1986 recorded the highest number of men with tuberculosis cases per 100,000 population in the country; that was over 115 cases. Over the years, the figure continued to decrease with the lowest of below 50 cases per 100,000 population in 1994. However, by 1997, the number increased and by the year 2000, the figure reached about 110 cases before it plunging back down to about 65 cases in 2001.

Meanwhile, the tuberculosis cases per 100,000 population for females has generally been below 70 cases since 1986 with the least number of below 40 cases in 1989. However, between 1999 and 2000, the figure increased to over 70 cases before decreasing gradually by 2001 onwards.

From 1992 until 2004, Brunei Muara district recorded the largest number of TB cases per 100,000 population with the highest in year 2000 that was about 215 cases. This was followed by Belait district with the highest number of about 55 TB cases in 2002. Meanwhile, both Tutong district and Temburong district recorded the highest number of 40 cases and 15 cases respectively in 1999.

Since “Direct Observation Treatment Short Course” or DOTS, a six month treatment which was introduced in the country in 2000, the number of TB cases has decreased. 

 
Brunei Shell Refinery scores another achievement in world class safety performance

The Brunei Shell Refinery in Seria Friday celebrated yet another world class safety performance achievement, the incredible record 21 years of operations equivalent to five million manhours work without any Loss Time Incidents, LTI, ever since the start-up of the country's only oil refinery in 1983.

In addition to the remarkable achievement, the company on 1st January 2005 recorded another milestone in the safety performance achievement when it clocked eight consecutive years without any Total Recordable Cases, TRC. In his speech, the Managing Director of Brunei LNG, Dato Paduka Haji Hamdillah bin Haji Abdul Wahab said both achievements are recognized as the best in all of Shell operated companies and also one of the industry's best Health Safety Environment, HSE, performance achievements in the world.

To mark the outstanding achievements, the refinery's staffs were presented with safety child seat presented by the Belait District Officer, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Yussop bin Bakar. The ceremony was a part of National Road Safety campaign which was launched every April 11th.

Since its official opening in 1984 by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, the refinery has undergone some major expansion such as the new reformer unit which enabled Brunei Darussalam to be self-sufficient in motor unleaded gasoline in addition to diesel and aviation fuel.

Another project was the Crude Distiller Unit, CDU, de-bottlenecking which was embarked in 2003, it is to ensure the increased production capacity to 12 thousand barrels per day would contribute to the refinery's confirming role as the sole supplier of finished products up to 2020 for motor gasoline and jet fuel.

During the ceremony, a demonstration on the 'convincer' vehicle traveling at as speed of 15 kilometers per hour in a sudden stop situation was also held. It show the impact when a car is involved in a collision. It is to further inculcate road safety awareness among road users in the country throughout the year.
