His Majesty joins Charity Walk hosted by Royal Brunei Police Force

 

 

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Sunday consented to take part in a Charity Walk hosted by the Royal Brunei Police Force. The event was also to mark the 85th Anniversary of the Formation of the Royal Brunei Police Force. His Majesty was welcomed at the Jerudong Park Country Club by the Commissioner of Police, Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Zainuddin bin Jalani and members of the organising committee.

With His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malek.

Prior to the Charity Walk, the participants performed a warming up and stretching exercise in which His Majesty, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malek enthusiastically joined in. His Majesty later declared the start of the walk which began at around 8 am and lasted for about an hour.

Several Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, senior officers and invited guests from ministries and the private sector also took part. The about 6 kilometre walk for men covered a route around the Jerudong Park Country Club. The women walked a distance of around 3 kilometres. The participation of His Majesty in the morning walk reflects the Monarch’s interest in the health and fitness of his rakyat. Such an event not only helps to promote health, agility and flexibility of the body and mind but also instill awareness among the public on the importance of daily exercise in life. Asides benefiting from physical exercises, the walk was also to raise money for funds in the country.

 
 

His Majesty grants audience to members of delegation of Brunei-Singapore Exchange Programme

 

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to receive in audience members of delegation of the 12th Brunei-Singapore Exchange Programme. The audience took place at the Istana Nurul Iman. Present at the audience were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammad Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The visitors were led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, His Excellency Mr. George Yeo. The 26-member delegation includes the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Environment and Water Resources, the Minister of Manpower and Second Minister of Defence, the Minister of Community Development, Youth and Sports and Second Minister of Trade and Industry, and Senior Minister of State Home Affairs and Law. The Singaporean delegation arrived Saturday for the three-day exchange programme.

Present at the audience were the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan, the Minister of Development, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Awang Abdullah, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohamad, the Minister of Energy at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Haji Awang Yahya,

Second Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Lim Jock Seng, the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Dato Paduka Haji Eusoff Agaki and the Deputy Minister of Defence, Retired Colonel Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd. Yasmin. Also there were the Permanent Secretaries at the Prime Minister’s Office and ministries.

 

Her Royal Highness describes corruption as internal enemy

 
 

Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah said that corruption is an enemy from within. Although corruption is regarded as a small matter, but if not brought under control, can be a paralysing source for a nation. Her Royal Highness reminded that corruption is not only forbidden in Islam but also tarnish a nation’s self-respect, the dignity of its public service or an individual’s identity.

Her Royal Highness made the remarks at the opening of the Anti-Corruption Bureau’s Second Season Drama, “Code 486”, Sunday. Her Royal Highness urged the country’s youth to focus on their future, saying that in this ever challenging world, the young should embrace and absorb patriotic values and avoid anti-social activities. One way of doing this is by indulging in beneficial activities with a commitment to enhance one’s self-value to serve the community, religion and the nation.

On arrival at the Jerudong Park Amphitheatre, Her Royal Highness was greeted by members of the committee led by the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Datin Paduka Hajah Intan. Her Royal Highness consented to launch the tv programme and to receive a pesambah (gift).

 

The production of the drama, Code 486, is deemed in line with the need of member countries commitment to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. Brunei Darussalam joined the Convention in 2003 in Mexico that called on every member countries to establish prevention policies that involved the community.

 

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade hosts dinner for his Singaporean counterpart

 

His Royal Highness Prince Mohammad Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, last night hosted a dinner for the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, His Excellency Mr. George Yeo. The function was held at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan.

Also present at the reception were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Brunei’s Ambassador-at-Large and Trade and several ministers and senior officials of both countries. His Excellency is in the country to lead the Singapore delegation at the 12thBrunei-Singapore Exchange Visit Programme.

 

Brunei's Ambassador-At-Large leaves for Beijing for six-day visit to China

 
 

Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-At-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has left for Beijing to begin a six-day visit to the People’s Republic of China. The visit is at the invitation of the Chinese Government. Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna was accompanied by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness is expected to call on the State Councilor of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Tang Jiaxuan, and meet the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Wu Dawei. The Ambassador-At-Large is also scheduled to meet officials from China’s Offshore Oil Corporation. Also included in Her Royal Highness’s itinerary are visits to historical sites as well as places of interest in Nanjing in Jiangsu Province.

 
 

Forum on “Toward Academic Excellence” held at SMJA Secondary School

 
A Forum on “Toward Academic Excellence” was held Sunday at the Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School in the capital. The Director-General of Education, Dayang Hajah Norjum in the forum said parents and teachers are the stimulus of students’ excellent achievements.

It forms the encouraging factor and basic foundation for students to pursue their studies and excel in their academic. Dayang Hajah Norjum added that collaboration between parents and teachers as seen in the Parents-Teachers Association, PTA, is the best avenue for dialogue between both sides to discuss issues relating to the academic progress of students.

The forum pin-pointed on the positive attitude and dedication which students must possess in order to achieve the best scores in their studies. The forum also agreed that a healthy environment, parents’ continuous support and encouragement from teachers play a central role in enhancing the academic quality. Five members of the panel talked about their experience. The forum was organised by the PTA of the SMJA Secondary School.
 

Health forum to raise awareness on importance of leading quality life through balanced diet

 

The Brunei Darussalam Women’s Institute, WI, Sunday organised a health forum to raise awareness on the importance of leading a quality life through balanced diet. Among those present at the forum were the wife of the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Datin Hajah Masnah binti Haji Tuah; the Adviser of WI, Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Mohd. Ali and the wives of foreign diplomats in the country.

The President of WI, Dayang Hajah Marhani binti Abdul Latif said women must focus on their health by practicing a balanced diet. Working women are required to balance their time between family and career. Meanwhile, the Corporate Nutrition Advisor of Nestle Malaysia Berhad, Doctor Zawiah Hashim, shared her knowledge on choosing the right food for the right diet. She said a balanced, moderate and variety food should be always practise for every meals to hinder and prevent increased in obesity and non-communicable diseases linked to nutrition such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease and hypertension.

 

Electrical Services Department to carry out operation to cut off electricity supply

 

As of today, 3rd April, the Department of Electrical Services, through its Revenue Management Section will carry out an operation to cut off electricity supply of consumers who fail to pay their outstanding bills.

According to the Department of Electricity, the latest move is to make consumers more responsible in the usage of power. By creating and maintaining an energy efficient environment, it can greatly reduce the cost of consumers’ electricity bills, and help the nation in protecting the environment and safeguarding the future of natural oil and gas.

 

Schools reopen today

 

On the advice of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, announced that the school leave due to reported outbreaks of the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease in Brunei Darussalam, which was enforced since the 9th of March has ended.

Primary schools, Religious Schools and Arabic Preparatory Schools as well as private schools throughout the country are reopen as usual today – Monday, the 3rd of April. However, as a continuous precautionary measure, children attending pre-school, kindergarten and nurseries including those attending child care centres are still given mandatory leave until further notice.
