His Majesty grants audience to Governor of Guangxi Zhung Autonomous Region of China

 
 

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Monday afternoon consented to receive in audience the Governor of Guangxi Zhung Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Lu Bing.  The audience took place at Istana Nurul Iman.  His Excellency is leading a business and economic delegation for a four-day visit to Brunei Darussalam. The visit is to mark 15th year of diplomatic relationship between the two countries.

Also present were the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Ahmad, Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abu Bakar and the Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Abu Bakar.

 
 

Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade also received in audience the Governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Lu Bing.  His Royal Highness welcomed His Excellency and discussed bilateral matters particularly on economic and trade cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China.  The audience was held at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan.

 

China’s Governor pays courtesy call to Minister of Industry and Primary Resources

 
 

Monday morning, the Governor of Guangxi Zhung Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Lu Bing paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Ahmad.

Also present were the Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Haji Hamdillah and the Permanent Secretary, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd. Hamid. The function took place at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources in Berakas.

 
 

Balanced scorecard is one of ways of bringing industrial projects to realization

 
 

For Brunei Darussalam, good governance plays a fundamental role in realising the national projects and programmes which require initiative efforts, sincerity and commitment of government agencies, especially to attract Foreign Direct Investment.  The Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abu Bakar underscores this at the launching of the ASEAN-EC International Seminar 2006 on “Managing For Results, Using Balanced Scorecard To Achieve Breakthrough Performance And Good Governance”, Monday.  The Minister noted that the most important benefit derived from using a scorecard, is the ability to make strategy operational and to achieve operational commitment.  


The seminar was conducted by a Professor of Leadership Development at America’s Harvard Business School, Doctor Robert Kaplan, who is also the creator of Balanced Scorecard.  As quoted in the Harvard Business Review, balanced scorecard has been one of the most influential management ideas.  It is a performance measurement tool and increasingly important as a management tool to align with the strategic plan of an organization.  His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s government through the Prime Minister’s Office is instrumental towards better public service delivery in a more structured and coherent manner to their client in the recent years.  The ceremony was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

 
 

Religious activity to commemorate and glorify Prophet’s birthday anniversary

 

The Ministry of Religious Affairs last night held the “Ihya Maulidur Rasul” to commemorate and glorify the birthday anniversary of Prophet Mohammad, Peace Be Upon Him. The function that took place at the Kampung Pintu Malim Mosque near the capital is one of the activities which is being observed for twelve consecutive nights before the actual celebrations takes place on the 11th of this month.

The dikir team was led by the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin.  The annual activity is organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and is being held throughout the country.

 

Electrical supply to more than 200 houses and premises nationwide has been cut off

 
 

The Department of Electrical Services through its Revenue Management Section has begun cutting off electricity supply to houses and premises of consumers whose electricity account is inactive.  Monday was the final dateline for consumers to settle their outstanding electricity bills.  

The Head of Revenue Management, Dayang Hajah Norkiah binti Haji Johari said the Department has started disconnecting more than two hundred houses and premises nationwide, Monday.  She said power supply will be re-connected to consumers as soon as the department received payments.  

 
 

According to the Department of Electricity, the latest move is to make consumers more responsible in the usage of electricity.  By creating and maintaining an energy efficient environment, it can greatly reduce the cost of consumers’ electrical bills, and help the nation in protecting the environment and safeguarding the future of natural oil and gas.

 

Business School of Technical Education launches Entrepreneur Development Programme

 
 

The Business School of the Department of Technical Education has launched the Entrepreneur Development Programme, Monday.  The objective of this programme is to help the former technical and vocational students to be involved in the business sector, hence, updating the human resources in economy diversification.

This programme is also to produce a new entrepreneur which is self-reliant, competitive and progressive.  During the programme, the students will be taught basic business studies, how to prepare business plan, the understanding of business entrepreneurship, procedures to start-up businesses and also study visit to some of the local company who have been successful as well as to some related government agencies.

 
 

Malaysian man sent to jail for defaulting fine

 

A 29-year-old Malaysian was sentenced to 4 months in prison.  He failed to pay a fine of $5,500 imposed on him after being found guilty for committing an offence under the Custom Act.

Raifeny Anak Mokti was nabbed by officers from the Prevention and Intelligence Section of the Custom and Excise Department as well as from the Halal Import Permit Issuing Board early Monday morning at the vicinity of Jalan Wasan Limau Manis.  He was caught while trying to smuggle 320 kilograms of dubious “Allana” brand meat into the country.

 
 

RBA flight information

 
 

Royal Brunei Airlines says it’s reducing flights to Darwin, Australia from three to two times weekly.  The temporary suspension on the Sunday flights from Brunei will take effect on 4th June and the returning flight on Monday, 5th June 2006, until further notice. Prior to that, some flights in April and May are also going to be cancelled.  The affected flights will be BI177, leaving Bandar Seri Begawan on Sundays, 23rd and 30th April, 7th, 21st and 28th May 2006.  This also affects the returning flights on the next days. 

RBA will advise on the re-instatement of the flight when it comes into force.  For further information or arrangements, passengers can contact the airlines ticket offices, its website at www.bruneiair.com or their travel agents.

 

Brunei lost to Sri Lanka in its first match in AFC Championship

 

The Asian Football Confederation Championship, AFC in Dhaka, Bangladesh; Brunei Darussalam’s team lost zero-one to Sri Lanka in their first match of ‘B’ Group.

In the match which was held in Chittagong, Sri Lanka, almost scored during the first half. The winning goal for Sri Lanka came in the 72nd minute through Kasun Jayasuriya.  In another match of the same group, Nepal beat Bhutan two-nil.  Both goals were scored in the second half by Pradeep Maharjan.
