Prince Abdul
Malik officiates at concrete laying ceremony for Foundation’s Secondary
School |

His Royal
Highness Prince Abdul Malik has consented to officiate at the concrete
laying ceremony for the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation’s new
secondary school building block in Berakas. Upon arrival, His Royal
Highness Prince Abdul Malik was greeted by the Deputy Minister of
Religious Affairs, Chairman of the Foundation’s Board of Directors,
Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Badaruddin and by members of the
Board of Governance and Board of Directors. The ceremony started with
the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia
Ustaz Haji Abdul Hamid. |

In his welcoming
speech, the Minister of Communication, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abu
Bakar who is also Chairman of the Administrative Board for the School
said as from last year, the foundation has begun offering secondary
education as part of its contribution to the development of education in
Brunei Darussalam. There’re currently 53 secondary level students and
until the new secondary school building is completed, they will continue
to be accommodated temporarily as presently at a block of the Yayasan
Primary School. The construction of the new school building which cost
about ten million dollars, began in January this year and scheduled to
be completed in January next year. |

His Royal
Highness also consented to view an exhibition on the new secondary
school. The complex will have sixty classrooms that include twelve
science laboratories, three computer rooms and one language laboratory.
There’ll also be a library and a lecture theatre. The new secondary
school is situated in the same area as the Yayasan’s Primary School and
Kindergarten. |

Her Royal
Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Brunei Darussalam’s Ambassador-at-Large
last night attended a dinner hosted by the State Councillor of the
People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Tang Jiaxuan. Prior to the
dinner, Her Royal Highness met the State Councillor at China’s Great
Hall of the People. |

During the
meeting, Her Royal Highness and His Excellency Tang Jiaxuan exchanged
views on bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and China,
particularly on ways to further enhanced cooperation in areas of mutual
interest. |

Both sides
expressed satisfaction with the current progress of relations and looked
forward to events commemorating the 15th Anniversary of Diplomatic
relations. Her Royal Highness arrived in Beijing on Monday for a six-day
official visit. |

Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Dani Wednesday made
working visits to Mukim Labu and Mukim Batu Apoi in the Temburong
District. |

Pehin held
discussions with the Acting Penghulu of Mukim Labu and Mukim Batu Apoi
as well as the Ketua Kampong and Heads of longhouse in both the mukim.
In visiting the Immigration Control Post in Labu, the Acting Minister of
Home Affairs heard of the problems faced by officers and staff of the
government law enforcement agency stationed there. |

Seminar on Family
launches at UBD |

The ability to
plan strategies in facing the future, particularly in current and future
financial aspect, may help in the formation of an organised family.
Other factors needed include characters and values related to endurance
as well as faith and patience in undergoing life within the family.
This was highlighted by the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei
Darussalam at the launching of a Seminar on Family in the context of a
Brunei Islamic Community, Wednesday. |

Dato Paduka
Doctor Haji Ismail bin Haji Duraman said that such values are developed
in learning and comprehending religious knowledge as well as in carrying
out duties and responsibilities as husband and wife and as parents.
Dato Doctor Haji Ismail believed that the existence of such an organised
family is something priceless and as asset to an individual. The
seminar focuses on a harmonious community within a conducive environment
that plays an important factor in the development process of the
nation. Five working papers were to be tabled during the seminar held
at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam, which also include a forum.

paper entitled “Keluarga Bahagia Negara Sejahtera”, the Assistant
Director of Syar’iah Affairs at the Syar’iah Department of the Ministry
of Religious Affairs stressed on the importance of husbands and wives to
cultivate the attitude of understanding between themselves without
bringing about unnecessary matters. |

Noor binti Haji Mohadi also advised husbands to avoid the word divorce
callously whenever a domestic crisis arises. Egoistic and snobbish
attitudes have to be eradicated within the family. She said couples
have to work their efforts to enliven their domestic environment by
taking into account the teachings of the Prophet and applying good ways
of living. |

Health roadshow
to inform on current situation of Bird Flu and Pandemic Influenza
|

A two-day
roadshow on the Accident and Emergency Service and Health Centre Service
as well as briefings on Bird Flu and Pandemic Influenza is currently
taking place at the Ministry of Finance. Organised by the Ministry of
Health with the cooperation of the Ministry of Finance, the roadshow is
part of an ongoing effort by the Ministry of Health to inform on the
current situation pertaining to the Bird Flu disease and Pandemic
Influenza as well as on prevention methods and how to overcome them.

The Head of the
Outpatient Section of the Health Service Department, Doctor Hajah
Maslina binti Haji Moksin in her briefing said that the Accident and
Emergency Section of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital
provides a 24-hour service especially for emergency and accident cases.
|
|
However, she
said, a research conducted last year showed that more than 75 percent of
patients receiving medical attention at the Accident and Emergency
Section were not serious cases and required no immediate treatment. She
also said that a “decentralization” project was launched in 2000 with
the creation of seven health centres in the Brunei-Muara District.

|
The project was
undertaken to upgrade basic health care in the country and to improve
accessibility of the public at nearby health centres. Asides from that,
the health centres provide a comprehensive and personalised service to
patients. Wednesday’s roadshow is the ninth of its kind to be held for
government departments. It includes briefings on Bird Flu, Pandemic
Influenza, Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease as well as briefings on
medicines and women’s health.
Wednesday, the
roadshow will focus on the Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease. There will
also be a question and answer session, and a blood donation campaign as
well as demonstration on First Aid training and briefings on women’s
health. |

Indonesian man
found guilty under Arms and Explosives Act |

|
The Bandar Seri
Begawan Magistrate’s Court has sent an Indonesian man to five years
imprisonment and three strokes of whipping for an offence under the Arms
and Explosives Act. The court found Andriyadi Zakaria guilty of
possessing an unlicensed bullet. The 28-year-old man was apprehended at
the Brunei International Airport before boarding his flight to Indonesia
on the 19th February 2006. |

In regard to
this, the Royal Brunei Police Force warns the public that anyone who
posses, store, sell, buy or use any related arms or explosive equipment
is illegal under the Brunei Darussalam’s law. |
