Special people have same rights as other people to live active and meaningful life

 
 

Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah said special people have the same rights as other people to live an active and meaningful life. Towards this, the Ehsan Centre has taken the initiative to give physical and spiritual support to the special people so that they can achieve their full potential. However, Her Royal Highness said that it is not easy to achieve the objectives. It needs continuous commitment from members of the public, especially from the public sector, professionals in the field of health as well as caring individuals. Her Royal Highness was speaking Sunday at the presentation of a contribution from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation to the Ehsan Centre.


In her speech, Her Royal Highness lauded the support given by the government agencies such as the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Development toward providing services that are needed by the centre. Her Royal Highness also appreciates all the support given by the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation. Earlier, Her Royal Highness Princess Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah who’s the Chairman of the Centre’s Board of Trustees was welcomed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation and Members of the Ehsan Centre’s Board of Trustees. Also present was Her Royal Highness Princess Fadzillah Lubabul Bulqiah.

 
 

The Managing Director of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation, Dato Paduka Haji Ali Hashim said the foundation continues to give financial support to the centre. Part of the aid is organising programs towards upgrading the welfare of the rakyat in the country.

At the function, Her Royal Highness received a cheque amounting to 200-thousand dollars from the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Foundation, Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin. Also starting from this year, the foundation contributes 50-thousand dollars to the centre as an annual incentive. Subsequently, Her Royal Highness consented to present a souvenir. There was a briefing on the function of the centre delivered by a Member of the Board of Trustees, Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Alimin.

 
 

Her Royal Highness also toured various sections of the Ehsan Centre. It is a non-government organisation which provides services and trainings for the special people to help them achieve their potential up to the maximum level.

 

Brunei-Singapore-Malaysia discuss and share views on various topics

 

Various matters of mutual interest have discussed between representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and their counterparts from Singapore and Malaysia. Among the important topics were the issue of employment and the control of foreign workers as well as travel documents. This was stated by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan, upon his return after making a one-week long working visit to Singapore and Malaysia.

During his meeting with his Singaporean counterpart, the Minister said they exchanged information and shared experience in the aspect of recruiting and controlling of foreign workers. They also discussed ways on hiring more locals to work in the private sector. While in Malaysia, the Pehin and the Malaysian officials discussed matters pertaining to travel documents. The Minister said his ministry wants to identify ways of implementing the Brumetic Passport being used in Malaysia as well as learns the methodology of using such travel document.

 
 

Education Ministry holds dikir ceremony to mark Mauludir Rasul

 

The Mauludir Rasul celebration marking the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad SAW will be held tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, the dikir ceremony has been held throughout the country in conjunction with the Maulud celebration. The Ministry of Education held such a ceremony last night at the Mohammad Bolkiah Mosque in Kampung Serusop.


Among those present were the Acting Minister of Education, Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Mohammad and the Acting Permanent Secretary, Awang Haji Mohammad Daud bin Haji Mahmud. Religious functions such as dikir has been held since the end of March to glorify the important event in the Islamic calendar.


Meanwhile, several main roads in the capital will be closed due to the mass gathering marking the birthday anniversary of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The closure begins at six in the morning until the function is over. In this regard, the Royal Brunei Police Force is seeking public cooperation as not to park their vehicles along the roads of the procession.

The roads are the T-junction of Jalan Tutong to Jalan Dato Haji Basir, T-junction of Jalan Residency to Jalan Sungai Kianggeh, T-junction of Jalan Tasek Lama to Jalan Stoney, T-junction of Jalan Sungai Kianggeh to Jalan Bendahara, T-junction of Jalan Sungai Kianggeh to Jalan Elizabeth the Second, T-junction of Jalan Sungai Kianggeh to Jalan Pemancha and T-junction of Jalan Sungai Kianggeh to Jalan Cator.

Meanwhile, all roads used during the procession will be closed one hour earlier, before the procession begins. The roads affected are Jalan Stoney, Jalan Tutong from the junction of Jalan Stoney up to the junction of Jalan Dato Haji Basir, Jalan Dato Haji Basir, Jalan Kumbang Pasang up to the junction off Jalan Sekolah, and along Jalan Sekolah, Jalan Kebangsaan Lama from junction Jalan Sekolah, along Jalan Tasek Lama up to the T-junction of Jalan Residency and Jalan Mc Arthur, Jalan Mc Arthur up to T-junction of Jalan Sultan and along Jalan Sultan.

Invited guests are to park according to the authorised zones produced by the Adat Istiadat Department while the public can park their cars along the sides of Jalan Residency, Jalan Kampung Kianggeh, Jalan Sumbiling Lama, Jalan Istana Darussalam and at the open area of Seri Complex, Mile One Jalan Tutong.

 

Home Minister officially launches new recreational park

 
 

Hiking enthusiasts will have another choice of hills for recreational activities. Bukit Markucing in Kampung Belimbing, Subok is now open to public for hiking after its official launching Sunday. The Bukit Markucing Recreational Park in Kampung Belimbing was officially opened by the Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan.

Before scaling the hill, the Minister and the public conducted an aerobic exercise. Also joining the event were the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Dani; the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Major General Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi as well as the Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Home Affairs.

 
 

BSM commemorates its fifth year achievement without Lost-Time Injury

 

Brunei Shell Marketing Company Sendirian Berhad, BSM, achieved another year without Lost-Time Injury among its staff and contractors, making it five years in a row which indeed is a key milestone for the company. To commemorate the achievement, BSM held a reception last night in Berakas.

The Managing Director of BSM, Pengiran Haji Yasmin bin Pengiran Haji Mohammad, in his speech commended the staff and contractors for their commitment, discipline and hard work in providing and maintaining a high Health, Safety, Security and Environment standards or HSSE. He urged them to be more proactive and continue to work together in order to strengthen the ongoing effort. He stressed that compliance of the HSSE standards is a joint-effort from all parties, whereby failure to work together could be disastrous.

Besides their commitment towards the company, Pengiran Haji Yasmin said that BSM are very much accountable to the government and the public in making sure that it maintain a high standard of HSSE. He also stated that in the next few months, they can expect a number of activities including the re-launching of the “Don’t Play with Fuel” campaign, safety weeks for retail, land transport operation, LPG and drug and alcohol random testing.

Present at the function was the Director of the Petroleum Unit, Awang Haji Alias bin Haji Yusof, who presented safety plaques to the companies currently contracted to BSM. BSM regularly conducts various safety initiatives to continuously raise awareness on the importance of HSSE. Past activities include the National Road Safety Campaign, Hearts and Minds, Drivers Safety Week as well as educating the public on the safe handling of LPG via media and distribution of booklets.

In conjunction with the safety theme, the HSSE Golden Rules was also launched as part of the company’s effort to continuously improve safety performances. The rules provide a framework of behaviour whereby each staff is required to comply with the law, standards and procedures, intervene on unsafe or non-compliant situations and respect their neighbours.

 

Kindergarten pupils back to school today

 
 

As advised by the Ministry of Health, the Ministries of Education, Religious Affairs and Culture, Youth and Sports announced that holidays for pre-school, nursery and kindergarten in all government primary schools and the private sector, including children at day care centres throughout the country ended Sunday.

The Education Ministry says pre-schools, nurseries and kindergartens and day-care centres, including special religious schools are to reopen today.
