His Majesty
arrives in Qatar for three-day state visit |

His Majesty
Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam is in Qatar at the start of a three-day
state visit to Qatar. His Majesty was greeted upon arrival at Doha
International Airport by the Assistant Chief Protocol of the Emiri Hall,
His Excellency Ebrahim Ahmed Al-Maliki.
Also at the
airport to welcome His Majesty were the Second Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Trade, Pehin Dato Seri Paduka Lim Jock Seng, the Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Pengiran Dato
Paduka Haji Sallehuddin and Brunei Darussalam’s Temporary Charge’ d’
Affairs to Qatar, Awang Haji Ali Hassan bin Haji Mohd. Salleh.
This is His
Majesty’s first state visit to Qatar this year. His Majesty last
visited Qatar in June last year, when His Majesty was attending the
Second Summit of the Southern Nations G77 and China in Doha. His
Majesty’s itinerary for the current visit includes visits to the Ras
Laffan Industrial City, the main natural gas production and supply
centre in Qatar, and the Sports Academy, Aspire that is the centre for
development of young athletes. His Majesty will also take a closer look
at the progress of Qatar’s economy and development projects. While in
Qatar, His Majesty will be staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha. |

Royalties at
charity concert |

The Impianku
Untukmu or “My Dreams For You” Concert organised by the Women’s
Graduates Association of Brunei Darussalam or PSW received good respond
from members of the public. The concert aims to raise funds for the
unfortunate people “Save Our Children”. The concert took place last
night at the Brunei International Convention Centre in Berakas.
Present at the
concert were Her Royal Highness Prince Azimah Nikmatul Bolkiah and Her
Royal Highness Princess Fadzillah Lubabul Bolkiah. Also present were
Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Rakiah and Her Royal Highness
Princess Hajah Amal Nasibah.
The Chairperson
of the ceremony, Datin Paduka Hajah Intan, as the President of Women’s
Graduates Association of Brunei Darussalam, in her welcoming speech said
that PSW has planned to organise two more programmes inline with the
current project namely, TAJAKA or Taja Anak Kami and PUSAKA.

Brunei-China hope
to share and exchange information on conservation and cultural management |

Brunei
Darussalam and the People’s Republic of China hope to share and exchange
information on conservation and cultural management. For the purpose,
the Director-General of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of
China, His Excellency Mr. Shan Jixiang made a three-day working visit to
the country. Saturday, His Excellency Mr. Shan Jixiang and his
five-member delegation paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Culture,
Youth and Sport, Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji
Mohammad.
During their
stay in the country, they will visit several places of interest. Among
those present were the Permanent Secretary at the ministry, Awang Haji
Jemat bin Haji Ampal and the Chinese Ambassador to the country, Her
Excellency Yang Yanyi. |

Religious talk to
mark Maulidur Rasul continues |

More religious
activities continue to be held in conjunction with the Maulidur Rasul
celebration or the birthday anniversary of Prophet Mohammad SAW. The
Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and departments under it held a
gathering to mark the celebration, Saturday.
In a special
talk, a guest speaker from the Islamic Dakwah Centre touched on the life
and traditions of the Great Prophet which should be followed by his
followers, the Muslim Ummah.
Among those
present was the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major
General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Mohammad. The gathering was
conducted by the Museums Department. |

Country hopes
Int’l Expo on Brunei Halal Products will serve as platform for int’l
business community to discuss pertaining matters |

The
International Expo on Brunei Halal Products to be held in the country is
hoped that it will serve as a unique One-Stop Platform for all
international players dealing in Halal products to gather and discuss
relevant matters under one roof.
The Deputy
Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Haji Hamdillah
also hoped that the expo would greatly assist existing and potential
entrepreneurs, especially the young men and women in extending their
network in sharing their business with both local and foreign
entrepreneurs who have already established credentials within the local
and international Halal products marketplace.
The Deputy
Minister was speaking prior to launching the Expo 2006 Logo and its
Website on Halal Products, Saturday. The expo is held in conjunction
with His Majesty’s 60th birthday celebration this year, and will be held
from 2nd to 7th of August at the International Convention Centre in
Berakas. Some two hundred entrepreneurs are expected to participate in
the expo. |

Pusat Bahagia
receives contributions from Korean Embassy |

|
The Pusat Bahagia
in Kampung Pulaie, Saturday received contributions from a foreign mission
and a firm in the country. The handing over ceremony took place at the
centre. Contributions in the form of three units of sewing machines and
stationery from the Korean Embassy were handed over by the First Secretary
of the Embassy, Mr. Lim Siheung to the Director of the Community Development
Department, Datin Hajah Adina.

Company donated a wheelchair to one of the students at the centre, Dayang
Ismah binti Besar. The Pusat Bahagia welcomes contributions from any
authorities in the country to enable the special children to enjoy life like
other children. |

Ministry of
Culture, Youth and Sports choose Saturday as exercise day for departments
under it |

It is important
that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport whose core business is
sport, to show that its officers and staff are also involved in sports.
The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said this at the launching of
an aerobic and walking activity for the ministry and departments under
it, Saturday. Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji
Mohammad in his speech also said, Saturday was purposely selected as to
allow all officers and staff of the ministry and departments under it to
come together.
The Minister
stressed that attendance of all officers and staff is mandatory except
for those who are sick and have received medical certificates or those
who have to finish their work instantly but only after approval by their
heads of department. He also urged all officers and staff of the
ministry to continue practising a healthy lifestyle by spending time to
do physical activity at least three times a week, which according to the
Minister, did not involve a lot of spending but has a high impact on
every individual who practises it. It has become the responsibility of
all officers and staff of the ministry in together supporting His
Majesty’s desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A twenty minute
aerobic session was held before the walk began. The aerobic and walk
event is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports and will
be a weekly activity for the ministry’s staff. The objective of the
walk is to create awareness among all officers and staff of the ministry
on the importance to stay healthy.
Prior to that,
as from yesterday, on every Saturday, all counters at the ministry and
departments under it, namely the Brunei Darussalam History Centre, the
Youth and Sports Department, Brunei Museums Department, Department of
Community Development and the Language and Literature Bureau will be
open at 9.45 in the morning. The morning’s event took place at the
Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sport Complex in
Berakas. |
