Language Premier
Forum inconjunction with 22nd National Day |
| |
|
Language is a
national heritage and treasure. Its development links closely with the
enhancement of knowledge of the user. Language is created through means
of thoughts and creativity resulting in new forms of aspects of
communication. Past decades used Jawi writing in the Malay Language and
influenced the Malay race during those times.
The Minister of
Religious Affairs laid the emphasis, Saturday when he officiated at the
opening of a Language Premier Forum on “Megah dan Setia Bahasa”.
According to Pehin Dato Seri Utama Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Mohd. Zain,
the arrival of Islam to the Malay world brought with it Jawi writing
based on the calligraphy of the Al-Quran. Both aspects created history
in South East Asia in particular and other territories as well.
The Acting
Director of the Language and Literature Bureau, Doctor Mataim bin Bakar
chaired the forum. The gathering discussed the survival in the function
of the Malay Language that is increasingly being edged out today. The
forum’s panel comprised Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Indonesia.
A member of the
panel, the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Dato Paduka
Doctor Haji Ismail stressed that each person of diverse ethnics need
language as a means of communicating with one another. Such features,
he said, is similar with the usage of the Malay Language in which the
identity of a Malay race is reflected from.
The second
speaker, the Chief Executive of the Yayasan Karyawan Malaysia, Dato
Doctor Haji Hassan Ahmad noted that every nationality loves its own
language. He cited France and Japan, two nations that prioritised their
national languages rather than English. Both countries found that they
could think more cohesively and creatively not only in the aspects of
their daily lives but also in national developments and international
communications.
In his opinions,
the Chief of the Language Centre of the Republic of Indonesia, Doctor
Dendy Sugono reiterated that over the centuries, the Malay Language has
played an important role in connecting the Malay race. The Malay
Language has become Indonesia’s identity towards civilization creating
its culture and arts.
The Minister of
Culture, Youth and Sports, Retired Major General Pehin Dato Seri
Pahlawan Haji Mohamad was present at the session in his capacity as
Chairman of the Executive Committee of the 22nd National Day
Celebrations of Brunei Darussalam. Organised by the Language and
