the State visit to Australia |

His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddien Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang
Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam who is now in Perth, the last leg of his
State Visit to Australia, began his programme by holding a meeting with
the Governor of Western Australia, His Excellency Lieutenant General
John Sanderson. The meeting was held at the Government House in Perth,

The Government House
is an historical building that dated back in 1859. It is the official
residence of the Governor of Western Australia. His Majesty was briefed
by the Governor of the historical aspects of this building. During the
official luncheon, His Majesty delivered a remark acknowledging with
appreciation the warmth friendship and generosity accorded to the people
of Brunei Darussalam as well as the goodwill that had developed between
the peoples of Brunei Darussalam and Western Australia. |

While in Perth, His
Majesty visited Australia's Special Elite Force based in Western
Australia. His Majesty's programme at the Special Air Services Regiment
included the tour of facility, witnessing live fire demonstration and
joining officers of the force for the afternoon tea. The Special Air
Services Regiment is modeled on the British Elite Force, the Special Air
Services, SAS. |

Crown Prince consents to present DPMM FC’s
Annual Awards |

His Royal Highness
Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, the Deputy Sultan and
Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah
last night consented to attend the DPMM FC Annual Dinner and Award
Night.
Upon arrival at the Empire Theatre of the Empire Hotel and Country Club,
Jerudong, Their Royal Highnesses were welcomed by the Vice Chairman of
the DPMM FC, Yang engiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad
Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Rahim as well as other Club's members. Also
present was His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik.
The climax of the function was the presentation of four DPMM FC's Annual
Awards which His Royal Highness consented to present in recognition to
the players' contributions and outstanding performances. Oluseye Ajai
was picked the best for the 'Golden Boot 2004' Award, while Rosmin bin
Haji Kamis was selected as the 'Best Player 2004' awardee. The 'Best
Young Player 2004' Award went to Mohamad Shahrin bin Zaini, and the last
Award- the 'Most Consistent Player 2004' was grabbed by Awangku
Shahrudin bin Pengiran Haji Tajudin.
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah also consented to
present the DPMM FC's donation of three thousand dollars to the Tsunami
Disaster Relief Fund to the Minister of Culture,Youth and Sports, Pehin
Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Paduka Doctor Haji Awang Hussein
who's also the Fund's Co-Advisor. His Royal Highness later consented to
receive donations from various companies totalling 27 thousand dollars
which were then handed over to the Minister of Culture, Youth and
Sports. |

village head |

As a leader, the role of Penghulu and
Ketua Kampong is to assist the government in producing, restoring and
maintaining the understanding and unity as well as in ensuring and
preventing activities that can jeopardise and threaten the safety,
peaceful and the prosperity of this country. This was stressed by the

the presentation of certificate of appointment for the newly appointed
Ketua Kampong of Kampong Lumut Satu yesterday. Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd
Yusof, said the role of Penghulu and Ketua Kampong is not easy, and that
it is essential for every Penghulu and Ketua Kampong to lead their
villagers fairly. Awang Haji Mohd Shafiee bin Ahmad, aged 61-years old,
was appointed as the new Ketua Kampong of Kampong Lumut Satu on the 15th
of August last year. He was a former Brunei Shell Petroleum officer.
Kampong Lumut Satu has a population of more than three thousand with six
hundred houses. |

Meanwhile, in a
similar ceremony yesterday the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of
Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Idris bin Haji Belaman presented
the certificate of appointment to the new Ketua Kampong of Kampong Limau
Manis, Mukim Pengkalan Batu. Dato Haji Idris said that the head of a
village must give full attention in the welfare and affairs of the
kampong residents without taking into account their time and energy and
hold discussion and meeting with the kampong residents on problems
raised by them. The new Ketua Kampong, Awang Haji Mohaimin bin Haji
Johari @ Jahari, aged 40-years and before his new appointed he was a
businessman. Kampong Limau Manis has a population of more than one
thousand eight hundred. |

I-S-B debates on issues of Economy and Social,
Political, Health and Environment |

The 3rd Borneo
Global Issues Conference which is currently taking place at the
International Convention Centre yesterday continued with general
assembly debates. Hosted by the International School of Brunei, I-S-B,
the debates focused on four issues namely Economy and Social, Political,
Health and Environmental issues.
More than a hundred student from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and
Thailand took part in the debates. The Economy and Social committee
focused on economic issues and their social implications. This year, the
committee's task is to develop strategies to reverse the 'Brain Drain'
from developing countries losing highly skilled citizens to jobs in more
affluent, developed countries.
Meanwhile, the Political committee focused on the establishment of
permanent peace and security in Kashmir, a region in the northern part
of the Indian subcontinent. The government and/or United Nations
response to potentially highly-lethal pandemics such SARS and Avian Flu
was chosen as this year's topic for the Health committee. The
Environment committee focused on the preservation of natural areas, rare
eco-systems and wildlife habitats, while considering the economic and
social needs of encroaching human development. |
