Brunei’s humanitarian relief contingent returns from Aceh

The second team of Brunei Darussalam's humanitarian relief contingent returned home safely Friday. The 35-man team, including 4 medical officers from the Ministry of Health, had been part of Brunei Darussalam's first ever international relief effort, providing aid and medical assistance to a number of areas throughout the Aceh province.

Present at the Air Force Base in Rimba to welcome the contingent home was the Deputy Ministry of Defence, Pengiran Sanggamara Diraja Retired Major General Pengiran Haji Ibnu Baasith; the Managing Director of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Ghani, senior government officials as well as senior officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. Family members also anxiously awaited the arrival of the contingent, who have been in Aceh since the 12th of last month.

RBA transports relief aid to Banda Aceh

Meanwhile, the Royal Brunei Airlines Boeing 767 left for Banda Aceh Friday, transporting approximately 17 tonnes of relief aid. The delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister office, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Hazair who is also the Chairman of the Royal Brunei Airlines and Chairman of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation; Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin.

Also included in the delegation were RBA management as well as board members and officers from the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation. A Doa Selamat was read before the second humanitarian flight departed from the Brunei International Airport Friday afternoon. The jet fuel for the entire journey is sponsored by the Brunei Shell Marketing.

E-government conference shares regional implementation experiences

To meet the demands of modern government in Brunei Darussalam, a talk on e-Government was held Friday afternoon in Jerudong.

Among the objectives of the one day e-Government conference, entitled "Enabling Governments into the 21st Century", were sharing the capability and implementation experiences of government and non-government sectors in the region and worldwide, to provide high level overview government agency IT adaptation and success stories, sharing insights on where the Brunei Government is in their cycle, what things they should look out for, what they should be doing and going forward, insights into best practices and what other governments are doing worldwide.

Present at the conference was the Minister of Communication, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zakaria and the Chairman of Brunei Darussalam Information Technology Council.

New agro market provides traders with better facilities

The new agro market for live animals at the Horticulture Business Centre in Rimba, Gadong, has received good response from the public.

Some local traders say the new place is suitable for live animal trading. They said the old site at Kianggeh is too crowded and only has limited parking.

Some traders are still finding business slow as the market was only just opened. However they are very glad of the business strategies provided by the Agriculture Department. Also available at the new agro market are stalls selling other agriculture products such as various processed agro-food, ornamental plants, vegetable and fruits which are farm fresh produce which will end tomorrow.

The new market has been upgraded with proper sanitary and cleaning facilities suitable for trading live animal poultry, pets and other animals to ensure the public safety and hygiene are well maintained. Apart from Friday, the live animals market will also operate on Saturday and Sunday.
