| The relief fund for the tsunami victims set up by the Ministry of Education, has received tremendous response from officers and staff of the ministry as well as citizens of educational institutions in the Sultanate. Contributions have come in the form of cash money and clothing. The Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Haji Awang Abdul Aziz disclosed this at a function to present donations to the fund. Yang Berhormat Pehin said his ministry has sent around two hundred boxes, comprise of foods, clothing and school stationeries. A portion of the food donations were sent to Muara port last Saturday. Earlier, Yang Berhormat Pehin received numerous donations amounting to more than 250 thousand dollars. The donations came from government and non-government schools and institutions as well as from departments under the Ministry of Education. Also Monday, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang visited the Nursing College to take a closer look at the donated materials to be delivered to the Muara Port. Most of the materials were donated by staff at the Ministry of Education, Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning, private companies and also members of the public. Clothes in separate boxes for men, women and children are to be sent to Medan via sea for the tsunami victims. At six o’clock Monday evening the Ministry's relief fund for the tsunami victims totaled more than 260 thousand dollars. |

humanitarian relief in Aceh picks up pace |

| Brunei Darussalam's efforts to provide humanitarian relief assistance to Tsunami victims in Indonesia's northern city of Banda Aceh is gathering pace with the expected departure Wednesday of a team to help in the relief work. At a meeting Monday morning, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Pehin Major General Dato Awang Haji Halbi said the team will be made up of personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation and medical professionals comprising doctors, nurses, health personnel and other volunteers. Initially the team, who will be bringing two black Hawk Helicopters and one CN235 transport aircraft of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, will help deliver medical supplies, food and clothing donated by the people of Brunei Darussalam through The National Relief Fund for Victims of the Tsunami Disaster. The departure of the team follows the departure of a six man advanced party to closely assess situation in the affected area so as to identify the logistic needs, communications and personnel. The advanced team is led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Pehin Colonel Dato Haji Muhammad Yasmin. Also in the delegation are the Director General of Medical Services, Doctor Haji Affendy, who is also a member of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation's Board of Directors, and four military officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. |

IDBB
hands over generous donation for tsunami victims |

| The Islamic Development Bank of Brunei Berhad, IDBB, and its subsidiary company Takaful BPI Sendirian Berhad made contributions to the fund for the tsunami victims. The contribution in the form of a cheque worth 60 dollars thousand was received by the Director of Community Development, Datin Hajah Adina binti Osman who is also the Secretary of the Relief Fund for Tsunami Victims. According to the Managing Director of IDBB, Pengiran Datin Hajjah Urai binti Pengiran Ali, the bank is planning to organize a SME Bazaar of which between 10 -20 percent from proceeds of the sales will go to the fund. The bazaar will be held next month.

Volunteers Unit is fast growing in numbers |

The Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation Volunteers Unit has received the registration
of 164 people since its formation three days ago. The unit was set up
as part of the foundation's initiative to provide humanitarian assistance
to the tsunami's victims.
Some of these registered volunteers will be sent to Aceh depending on their skills. At the moment the volunteers are helping out with the packaging of donated materials to be sent to the tsunami victims. Meanwhile the public, who wish to contribute to the foundation's relief fund for the tsunami victims, may do so by sending their donation at the 2nd floor of the Foundation Complex in the capital, while those who wish to become volunteers may register at the Unit, on the 4th floor of the building. |
