It was one of the Mukim's projects with the aims of instilling awareness on the importance of cleanliness and in turn feelings of love of the mukim and the country as a whole. Friday's campaign began with the picking up of garbage from residences in Kampung Jaya Setia and Jaya Bakti in Perpindahan Berakas. The Deputy Minister of

Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Dani was present to launch the event. In his address, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs reminded members of the public that there is no logical excuse for them to dump their garbage at improper disposal areas because the government of His Majesty has provided disposal centres for their convenience.

The government's efforts to address the garbage disposal problem will not be effective without the support of the public. Yang Dimuliakan Pehin said that apart from looking after one's physical and mental cleanliness, Islam also stresses on the cleanliness of the surrounding. It is common knowledge that garbage attracts carriers of diseases that might harm one's health. However, there

remain people who are ignorant of the fact and still practice the negative habit of dumping rubbish recklessly. It is also against the law to dump rubbish indiscriminately as stated in the minor offences act chapter 30. He deplored the habits of certain individuals who are not bothered about hygiene instead who continued to dispose of their garbage at any convenient open places.

Such negative attitude, he said, is not in line with Bruneian culture that places Islamic values in high esteem that among other things advocates cleanliness and beauty. The highlight of the clean up campaign was distribution Clean-up Campaign Posters to Heads of kampung under Mukim Berakas 'A' aimed at encouraging their village dwellers to maintain beautiful and clean surrounding.
