Youth Camp |
| |
Various activities for youth continue to
be carried out by the relevant parties with the aim of guiding them and
preventing them from getting involved in undesirable activities. Several
projects particularly designed for school students are being organised
during the current second term school holiday. One such activity is the |

Youth Camp being held
at the Berakas Forestry Recreational Park. Some 65 students aged between
twelve and fifteen from primary and lower secondary schools are taking
part. During the four-day camp, various activities are being held for
the students which include orienteering, hiking and religious
activities.
|
|
| |
 |
|
Among the objectives of the programme is
to provide the students with the opportunities to develop their
communication skills, exchange knowledge, experience and ideas with new
friends. It also aims to instill good discipline and teamwork culture in
the young students. Some of the students had gained from the programme,
with some expressing their hope they could apply what
they had |
|
| |
experienced and learnt
from the activity in their daily life. The activity helps to strengthen
their faith in Islam, while others find it very interesting, challenging
and a good test for their endurance and courage. |

Youth Camp activities in
Belait to mark World Environment Day |
| |
More youth
activities should be held to foster more interaction and understanding
among youth in the country. This was voiced by several youths who took
part in the Youth Camp held in conjunction with the World Environment
Day. |
|

|
|
| |
 |
|
The Youth Camp, in
which more than one hundred youth from throughout the country took part,
was held at the Pantai Lumut in the Belait District. The campers faced
various experiences and challenges during their stay. Youth from the
other districts claimed that, besides Lumut Beach, other beaches in the
country also make interesting locations for campers. They hoped that
relevant |
|
| |
authorities
would set up more facilities like garbage bins and public seats in those
areas. They also agreed that more beach activities should be held in
order to revive beaches in the country as recreational spots.
|
|
| |
One of the participants, Michelle Lim Yee
Phei, found the Lumut Beach suitable for camping and suggested that a
more facilities be added such as a place for barbecue. Another
participant, Irwan Shah bin Zulkifli said he had gathered many useful
experience while camping and also had the opportunity to make
presentations, and help set up the tents. He also stressed that barbecue
grilles should be placed away from trees so as to protect nature from
decay. While Mohammad Hamiz spoke of his experience in meeting new
friends, setting up a camp and stalls and taking part in various sport
activities. |

KB school term holiday
activities |
| |
Various activities have been conducted for the current school term
holiday. There are several places in the Belait District where youth are
involved in the activities. These include religious programmes being
held at mosques and suraus in the district.
|
|
 |
|
| |
 |
|
The Takmir Mosque
Committee in the Belait District is not left out in conducting religious
activities for youth. The programmes are aimed at keeping students
occupied during the second term school holiday so as to protect them
from undesirable elements. It is hoped that the beneficial activities
such as camping and attending religious talks initiated
by the Takmir Mosque Committee, would help |
|
| |
the youth to be well-occupied during their
spare time as well increase their faith in Islam and bring them closer
to the mosque.
|
|
| |
Apart from the mosque religious
activities, other beneficial social engagements are also being held by
village consultative committees and youth associations. One such
activity is the newly-introduced “Hari Perkampungan” or “Village Day”
organised by the Kampung Lumut Consultative Committee. Recently, the
Brunei Scouts Association organised a 60-kilometre rafting expedition
for its members. All these activities are very useful indeed, especially
for the youth as the country’s future leaders, to ensure they are always
fit mentally and physically |
