Foreign Minister meets his counterpart from South Africa |

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Deputy Sultan, has hosted
a luncheon for the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Africa.
His Royal Highness hosted the luncheon for Her Excellency Dr.
Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan.

Prior to that, His Royal Highness and Her
Excellency discussed bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and
South Africa and exchanged views on a number of current regional and
international affairs. Also present was Her
Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs. Her Excellency is in the country for a three-day
official visit

and Primary Resources Pehin Dato Dr. Haji Ahmad at the Ministry's
premises in Berakas.

Accompanying Her Excellency was the High Commissioner of South Africa to
Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Dr. Abraham Sekhaya Nkomo. During the
meeting, both sides discussed issues of mutual interest.

were received for this year’s Royal Birthday Anniversary Celebration |

The National Committee
of His Majesty’s 59th Birthday Anniversary Celebration has received
contributions of more than 78-thousand dollars from business
establishments, organisations as well as individuals for this year.
The contributions were received by the Minister of Home Affairs,
Pehin Dato Paduka Awang Haji Adnan who is the Chairman of the National
Committee of the celebration |

The Brunei Shell
Petroleum Company Sendirian Berhad contributed 30-thousand dollars. Hua
Ho Sendirian Berhad contributed 5-thousand dollars. Abdul Razak
Holdings; Goh Hock Kee Motor; Ideal Multifeed Farm and Gadong
Properties; Galfar Construction and Trading Sendirian Berhad; and NBT
Brunei Sendirian Berhad contributed 3,000 dollars each. |

The committee also received donations from Lim Teck Ho Holdings and
Awang Ang Swee Chuan contributed 2-thousand 500 dollars each.
Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Awang Abdul Hapidz, Awang Jackson Ting,
Awang Nazeer Ahmad and Happy Motoring Sendirian Berhad donated
2-thousand dollars each.

- all donated one thousand dollars each.
Hang San Hardware, Lim Ting Guan, Haji Daud Property, Hanafi Konsaltan,
Royal Brunei Technical Services, Chop Jing Chew and Syarikat Aliaa
Sendirian Berhad donated 500 dollars each. And, Kim Eng Soon and Lim Eng
Leong contributed 300 dollars each.

The Government allocated
over 35 million dollars to senior citizen annually |

Over 35 million
dollars of pension money have been earmarked for distribution among
eligible senior citizens in the country. The Government of His Majesty
the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam always gives
attention to the needs of the senior citizens, amongst which is a
special pension for those aged 60 and above, an allocation under the Old
Aged Pension and Disabled Act 1954. The money is to be distributed to 15
thousand, 843 eligible senior citizens.

The Minister of Culture
Youth and Sports disclosed this at the launching of a Project on Caring
for Senior Citizens by Families, Wednesday. Retired Major General Pehin
Dato Haji Mohammad said better medical and health services have led to
an increase in the life expectancy of people in the country, which for
men is 73 years old and 78 years for women. The number of senior
citizens in Brunei Darussalam is expected to increase to more than 35
thousand by 2021, which is about 7.8 percent of the total population. |

The Project on Caring for Senior Citizens entails visits to their homes
to give them physical, social and emotional support and other forms of
help for them to carry out their daily activities. The launching of the
project was held at the International Convention Centre in Berakas. |

speaks on the important of value of knowledge |

The Commander of
the Royal Brunei Armed Forces spoke on the importance of value of
knowledge acquired by the senior officers. Learning the knowledge
in-depth, he said, is important towards handling any issues arising and
dealing with changes at workplace.

General Dato Paduka Haji Awang Halbi was speaking at the certificates
presentation to participants of the Executive Development Programme.
According to Pehin, knowledge relating on policy and management issues
need to be tackled by taking into account various important aspects of
career and be implemented with full confidence and effectively. |

The programme which started on the 28th February, was attended by 13
senior officers from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Defence,
Ministry of Development and Royal Brunei Police Force. The programme was
co-organised by the Ministry of Defence and the National University of
Singapore for the second time.

Operation ‘C’ Branch
emerge as the winner in the drill competition for fire stations |

A Squad drill is one of the ways to
maintain a well-disciplined Fire Services team. The drill and associated
manoeuvers require members of the team to work together in unison and as
such would implant discipline and understanding.
The Acting Director of Fire Services Department, Haji Awang Johari bin
Awang Jaludin emphasised this at the final of the 2nd Squad Drill
Competition, Wednesday. The Operation ‘C’ Branch of the Berakas/Lambak
Kanan Fire Station emerged as the winner. Adjudged the best Parade
Commander was Station Assistant Muhammad Ali bin Hassan of Operation ‘E’
Branch. The drill competition was judged based on movements, orderliness
and control. Four teams competed in the final held at the Fire Services
Training Centre of the Lambak Kanan Fire Station. |
