The Crown Prince visits Mediacorp and Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies

 
 

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Salleh Ab' Rahman Friday continued their official visit to the Republic of Singapore with separate programs.

 
 

 

In the morning, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince began his itinerary by touring the Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies, IDSS, the Nanyang Technological University, NTU. On arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Deputy Director of IDSS, Professor Amitav Acaharya. Also present was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Qawi.

 
 

The royal visitor was briefed on issues pertaining to the international terrorism and its implications to regional security. Established in 1996, IDSS is set up as an autonomous research institute within the Nanyang Technological University. Its existence is to develop a community of scholars and policy analysts at the forefront of Asia Pacific security studies and international affairs.

   
 

 

From the University, His Royal Highness proceeded to the MediaCorp Caldecott Broadcast Centre. On arrival, His Royal Highness was welcomed by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ernest Wong, who also gave a brief account on the current developments and achievements of the broadcasting centre.

 
  MediaCorp features prominently in the development of Singapore's broadcasting history. Today, it is Singapore's largest broadcaster with a complete range of media business spanning television, radio, entertainment and movie productions, newspapers, magazines, electronic media and other broadcasting services.    
  Meanwhile, Brunei Darussalam and Singapore signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Broadcasting 14 years ago. Projects under the MOU are joint drama productions, and a series of debate and tv programme exchanges. Before wrapping up his visit, His Royal Highness consented to have a luncheon and also receive a pesambah.  
 

Pengiran Anak Isteri Sarah visits the Singapore Sports School

 
 

 

Meanwhile, Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah spent the morning visiting the Singapore Sports School. On arrival, Her Royal Highness was welcomed by the School Principal, Mr. Moo Soon Chong.

 
 

The school is a specialised independent institution, operating under the auspicious of the Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports Development. It was officially opened in April last year. All the students take a three or four year course, at the end of which they sit for the GCE 'O' level examination. Students take up to

 

 
    nine subjects in the Upper Secondary levels, depending on their sports schedule and academic achievements. The academic programme is based on the educational objectives set out by the Ministry of Education.  
 

It is also the only school in Singapore to have its own science sports academy, offering services such as Exercise Physiology, Sports Biomechanics, Sports Psychology, Sports Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Sports Medicine. Its vision is to provide students with the best possible sports training and support systems to help realise their potential and talents and to produce national athletes. At the end of the visit, Her Royal Highness consented to receive a Pesambah.

 

 
 

Certificates of appreciation awarded to the 21st National Day Working Committee

 
 

The commitment shown by the Working Committee and Secretariat toward ensuring the success of Brunei Darussalam's 21st National Day celebration revealed a strong resolution to create a better nation through integrated efforts. Such commitment demonstrates a strong sense of patriotism in accordance to this year's National Day theme "Bersepadu Memperkasa Mandiri Bangsa".

 
 

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Dato Doctor Haji Awang Hussain, made the comment Friday night at an appreciation dinner in conjunction with the National Day Celebration on the 23rd of last month. In his remark, Yang Berhormat Pehin who's also the Chairman of the celebration's Executive Committee, urged the society to embrace the spirit of living as a community. He expressed his deep appreciation to those who were involved in making the celebration a success.

 
 

The function which was held Friday night at the International Convention Centre was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Awang Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal, Heads of Department, Senior Officers and members of the organising committee. There was also a presentation of Certificates of Appreciation as well as a token of appreciation for the creator of this year's National Day Logo.

 
 

1st National Shooting Championship comes to a close

 
 

In sports, the First National Shooting Championship ended Friday afternoon with the Men's Final Individual Skeet 50 clays. Six shooters competed in the final. Present to watch the competition was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the National Olympic Council.

 
 

Razali bin Tagal of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces won the event by a single point. Second was Kamis Juing of the Prisons Department; Mohd Harno bin Haji Abdul Ghani from the Royal Brunei Police Force was third.

 
 

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah consented to receive a trophy in the overall best individual Men's Trap. It was an appreciation for His Royal Highness's sportsmanship and support toward boosting the morale of the participants.

 
 

The Overall Skeet event was won by Pengiran Dato Haji Kamaluddin, while Nickles Mulok won the overall Trap event. Prizes were presented by the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Awang Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal, who also officially closed the five-day Championship.

 
 

ASEAN’s Under-21’s come together in friendly sporting spirit

 
 

The Under-21 Youth Football Championship 2005 to vie for the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy brings together youth from the ASEAN member nations in a friendly and competitive sporting spirit.

 
 

This was said by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Dato Doctor Haji Awang Hussain, who's also the President of the Brunei Amateur Football Association, at the Managers' Meeting for the Football Championship Friday.

 
 

Yang Berhormat Pehin said that the championship aims to improve and strengthen cooperation in any projects for the development and close relationships in Asean. He also expressed his appreciation for the support given by the football associations in the country.

 
 

The meeting discussed the regulations of the tournament, pre- and post-match schedules as well as the colour fixtures. There was also a briefing on refereeing matters.

 
 

Ministries go head to head in Futsal Championship

 
 

The Inter-Ministries Futsal Championship organised in conjunction with the 11th Civil Service Day 2005 ended Friday night with the final in the VIP, Veteran and Open categories.

 
 

The Ministry of Development emerged the champion in the VIP section after defeating the Ministry of Health 1-nil. The Veteran Section was won by the Ministry of Development when it beat the Ministry of Communication 2-nil. The Ministry of Development also won the title in the Open Event by defeating the Prime Minister's Office 2-1.

 
 

On hand to present the prizes was the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Yakub Bin Abu Bakar. The matches were held Friday night at the Multi-Purpose Hall of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas.
