Pengiran Anak Isteri Sarah graces RBA’s charity netball tournament

 
 

 

Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah binti Pengiran Salleh Ab Rahaman has consented to attend the final match of a netball tournament organised by the Royal Brunei Airlines. The three-day charity tournament was organised to raise money for the fund of Tsunami Victims.

 
 

On arrival at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri was greeted by the wife of the Chairman of Royal Brunei Airlines, Datin Hajah Rosnah and the Chairlady of the organising committee, Dayangku Halizah binti Pengiran Mat Jair.

 

 
 

Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri then was introduced to the managers of the team who were taking part in the tournament.

 
 

 

Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri consented to watch the final match between the Jade One team and the Blunette team. Twenty one teams took part in the charity game. The proceeds from the tournament will go to the Tsunami Victims Fund. Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri consented to present prizes to the winners.

 
 

Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri also presented a cheque of two thousand and one hundred dollars to the Director of the Community Development, Datin Hajah Adina Haji Othman, who's also Secretary of the Tsunami Disaster Relief Fund.

 
 

Brunei accepted as 191st member of UNESCO

 
 

Calak Brunei, Cara Brunei or the Brunei Way of conflict resolution - emphasizing dialogue and compromise - is a contribution to the promotion of peace that the world at large can benefit from. This was highlighted when Brunei Darussalam was recently accepted as the 191st member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO.

 
 

In a statement from the United Nations, UNESCO's Director-General, Koichiro Matsuura in welcoming Brunei Darussalam into the agency said that the sultanate brings special strengths to UNESCO's work through its promotion of sustainable development and cross-cultural dialogue and peace, noting that with Brunei's accession to UNESCO on Thursday is very close to achieving full universality.

 
 

The accession to the Paris-based organization was formalized when Brunei Darussalam's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Pengiran Haji Yunus bin Pengiran Haji Mahmud signed the UNESCO's constitution.
The specialized agency that was founded in 1945 serves as a laboratory of ideas, a standard-setter for universal accords on ethical issues and a clearinghouse for sharing information and knowledge.

 
 

Blaze claims over 20 hectares of Brunei forests

 

 

Brunei Muara has been experiencing a thick haze of smoke over the last few days, as the result of forest fires in the Lambak Kiri area and parts of the Berakas Forest Reserve. According to the Assistant Superintendent of Fire Services, Pengiran Haji Shaharuddin, around 20 hectares of forest have been destroyed by the fire, which is believed to have started from the Lambak Kiri area last Thursday. The fire has since spread to the Berakas Forest Reserve.

 

 

The present windy conditions also attributed to the fire spreading. Fire fighters are on alert round the clock to monitor and contain the blaze from causing untoward damage. A total of five fire tenders and 31 fire fighters from the Special Squad, the Berakas, Tumasek and Bandar Seri Begawan fire stations under the supervision of Chief Operation Officer, Awang Shahbandi bin Haji Abdul Halim, are deployed at the affected areas to contain the blaze from spreading.

 
 

The operation also entails the services of three helicopters from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces in extinguishing the forest fires from the air and three water supply tanks from the Water Services of the Public Works Department.

 
 

Motorist plying the Jerudong and Muara highway especially in the vicinity of the Berakas Forest Reserve area affected by the fire are advised to drive with extra caution at all times because of poor visibility due to the thick smoke. Members of the public are also reminded to immediately call the Fire Services Hotline 995 should they spot any bush fires.

 
 

First fully Malay owned private electrical company opens for business

One of Brunei's local entrepreneurs has started a new venture into the supply of electrical goods in the capital. The company which sells electrical goods and appliances of various types and brands, is the first of its type to be fully owned by a local Malay businessman in the country.

 
 

The local owner of the Arafah Building located in the Kiarong Complex commercial area, Awang Haji Ma'arof bin Haji Mohamad Ya'akub, Sunday launched the grand opening of Amar Ma'arof Enterprise, which is a fully Malay owned private company. To mark its opening, the company, held a colouring contest for children that will run until the 9th of next month with luxury prizes to be won.

 
 

Brunei draws 2-2 against Kedah

 
 

In the Malaysian Premier League Brunei Darussalam only managed to collect one point after a two-all draw against Kedah in an away match Sunday night. It took place at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Star Kedah.

 
 

The match was the 7th game for the WASPS in the Malaysian Premier League 2005.

 
 

Brunei is scheduled to play against Pulau Pinang NTFA in a home match on the 27th of this month.
